Berean Baptist Church History
On December 14, 1963, a group of Christians met in the Walter Kahle home to organize a church. C.W. Reaka presided over the meeting and read a proposed covenant. Charter members of the church were: C.W. Reaka, Diana Marie Reaka, David Reaka, Wilda Lois Reaka, Lynnette Reaka, Michael Reaka, Phillip J. Reaka, Rebecca Reaka, John Reaka, Oscar Hughes, Florence Hughes, Lloyd Weeks, Ruth Weeks, T.R. Braun, Bertina Braun, Marie, Holscher, Victor White, Gladys M. White, Walter Kahle, Winifred Kahle, Wallace Schreiber, Mary Schreiber, Jerry L. Weeks, Clifford Weeks, Mrs. Rosanna Webb, Ed Webb, Jr., Barbara Webb, Roy Webb, Rosanna H. Webb, Madeline A. Webb.

The Name "Berean" was chosen because of the characteristics of the early Church in Berea in Acts 17:11. Nobleness, receiving the Word with readiness of mind and searching the Scriptures daily were those valued characteristics
As our church has grown, so has our love for God and the people of Council Grove. Our ministries include discipleship groups, Joy Club, Bus/Van ministry and a nursing home ministry. We encourage our members to be the hands and feet of Jesus at work, in their neighborhoods, as a part of other Council Grove community organizations and through partnerships with missions organizations around the world.
