On June 13, 2009 at the First District Planning Session under the divine leadership of Bishop Richard F. Norris, Sr. Reverend Dr. Jackson was assigned pastor of the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bridgeton, NJ the oldest black church in Bridgeton. During Reverend Dr. Jackson’s successful administration at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Bridgeton, NJ the membership increased, the church became financially solvent, the renovation of the church’s parsonage was complete, and the ministries flourished. Reverend Dr. Jackson was actively involved throughout the community. He was a member of the Nehemiah Coalition which is an organization that strives to offer alternatives to the thousands of young men and women to help them on the road of education, fellowship, and employment. Reverend Dr. Jackson was also a member of The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP of Greater Vineland) a civil rights organization for ethnic minorities in the United States.
During the First Episcopal District Annual Founder’s Day celebration on February 12, 2011, Bishop Richard F. Norris, Sr. appointed Reverend Dr. Jackson as the pastor of Israel Memorial A.M.E. Church Newark, NJ. Israel Memorial was known for their innovative worship and community engagement. While there are many charitable giving foundations and organizations, the New Jersey AIDS Partnership is unique. The Partnership is the only charitable giving fund in New Jersey that is solely committed to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Reverend Dr. Jackson served as the Lifelines to Healing Organizer for Faith in NJ. Faith in New Jersey is an interfaith and multi-racial network of faith-communities working to advance a racial and economic justice agenda in the Garden State. Ingram transferred Reverend Dr. Jackson to the New England Conference and appointed him to serve as the Pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Stamford, CT. OUR ROOTS, OUR GROWTH, OUR DESTINY
In the year 1895, the first worship services of colored Methodists were held in Stamford with Bro. John Taylor, a local Deacon from Norwalk, CT, serving as spiritual leader. In 1901, the Methodist Conference sent the Rev. A. Lucas to Stamford to take charge of the mission. For a brief time, the little group flourished, but eventually vanished away and the African Americans of this city had no Methodist Church or worship services. In 1904, a committee of three was sent to confer with Rev. C.P. Cole, Pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Greenwich with the purpose of inviting him to organize an African Methodist Episcopal Church in Stamford. Almost immediately, Rev. Cole assembled a small group of interested people and organized them into a congregation which was named “BETHEL” In 1904, Bishop Abraham Grant, Presiding Bishop of the First Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church, appointed Rev. A.Q. Norton to become the first official Pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Stamford. In 1917, Rev. E.H. Collins led the congregation in the purchase of a small white church located on Richmond Hill Avenue and Mission Street.
Since that time, Bethel A.M.E. Church, Stamford has continued to thrive. The building of our present house of worship was realized under the Pastoral leadership of Dr. F. LeMoyne Whitlock (1964-1972). Some of the Pastors, who also left their legacies here at Bethel Church Stamford; Rev. Elliott J. Mayfield (1972-1981); Rev. Donald C. Luster (1981-1991); Rev. Winton M. Hill (1991-2004); and Rev. Leroy Ladson, Jr. (2004-2015).
Our Bethel family is currently led by the
Reverend Dr. Robert A. Jackson, Jr., & First Lady Moninya D. Jackson (2015-Present).
We look forward to the future under the leadership of the Pastor R.A. Jackson, Jr. with renewed faith and the belief that the “Best Is Yet to Come”! We stand on the Word of God, “The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house”! Below you will find a list of ministries that are offered here at Bethel Church.

Open our ears.
Blessed Lord, open our ears to hear what Thou speakest and our eyes to see as Thou seest. Give us hearts to beat in sympathy with Thine at the sight of every little child; and above all, our Lord, to understand and experience how surely and how blessedly Thou fulfilest Thy promise, "Whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me."
