Who we are
Beliefs & Mission
At Calvary Community, our vision is to be people who live and love like Jesus.
We believe
The Bible is the inspired Word of God.
There is one true and eternal God.
He exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is God's eternal Son.
The Holy Spirit convinces us to repent of our sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior.
Men and women were created in God's image, separated from God by sin, and forgiven through rebirth in Christ.
The Church is the living body of Christ on earth.
Jesus Christ will return to earth as King.
Our Core Values
As a church, we are committed to being:
Centered in Christ.
Guided by the Word.
Empowered by the Spirit.
Committed to the Gospel.
Constant in Prayer.
Devoted as Disciples.
Faithful in Stewardship.
Compassionate in Attitude.
Authentic in Relationships.

Leader Bio:
Since September 2008, Pastor Shawn has been faithfully serving as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Community Church. In this role, Shawn is the primary teacher of God’s Word, main vision leader executing God’s call on our church, and the lead shepherd, making sure our ministry teams are serving people well. Shawn is passionate about ensuring our ministry is all about Jesus Christ and everything that happens at Calvary honors God as we seek to live and love like Jesus.
In July 2016, Shawn’s memoir, 'All But Normal: Life on Victory Road' was released by Tyndale House Publishers. It is a powerful story of growing up in a chaotic home with a mother greatly affected by a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and how her struggles impacted his family. God has also been growing Shawn’s influence through his radio teaching ministry, All Things New, that currently broadcasts on 14 stations and throughout the country on XM Radio.
Shawn blogs regularly about ministry and leadership at pastorshawn.com. In addition, Shawn enjoys serving on the board of directors at several community and ministry organizations including AWANA Clubs International, The Joni and Friends Foundation, and Los Robles Medical Hospital in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Prior to Shawn's role at Calvary, he served as the Senior Pastor of Bible Center Church in Charleston, WV for 11 years when God blessed the church with substantial growth. He received his MDiv from Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, MD and a BA at Appalachian Bible College in Bradley, WV. Shawn has been married since 1990 to Lesli and they have three young adult children.

Calvary Community Church History
History
Where we began... Calvary Community Church began as a group of Christ followers meeting in a local restaurant. Throughout it's history, Calvary Community has been committed to living and loving like Jesus in the Conejo Valley.
From the season in the Hungry Tiger, we moved worship locations to what is affectionately known as The Warehouse, just a short distance away from our present facility. In The Warehouse we welcomed new people to the Calvary family, celebrating their growth as followers of Jesus. At the same time, we have wanted to reach across the globe to share Jesus' love, and have been honored to support both short term teams and long term missionaries internationally.
The past 10 years...
In 1999, Calvary was able to relocate from The Warehouse to a new, larger facility that would help enhance our ministry capacity. So on Palm Sunday, 1999, the whole church marched from one location to the other. We celebrated 10 years in our current location on Palm Sunday, 2009. Of course, Calvary is, and has always been, much more than a building. Listen to Senior Pastor Shawn Thornton and founding Pastor Larry DeWitt reflect on the move from the Warehouse to our current facility.
Continuing the tradition...
Calvary continues to be committed to living and loving like Jesus in the Conejo Valley, as our home, as well as internationally. We'd love for you to take your next step in being part of our story.
