Celebrate
through spiritual worship the mercy and grace of the Heavenly Father, the sacrifice and headship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the equipping and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
Boldly Communicate
by word and action the life-changing power of the Gospel to our neighbors in Albany Park and the world.

Leader Bio:
Rev. Dr. James Larkin Sn. (D Min & M Div, Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary) grew up in the Albany Park neighborhood. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he attended Wheaton College.
It was at Wheaton that Pastor Jim came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. After witnessing the drastic changes the Holy Spirit did in his life, Pastor Jim desired to see God work powerfully in other people’s lives, especially those from the city.
He went on to receive his Masters of Divinity from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and spent ten years as the Senior Pastor at an inner-city church in Philadelphia. It was in Philadelphia that Jim met his wife Sharon. While engaged, the couple began praying about the possibility of starting a church in Chicago.
They chose to return to Albany Park since there were no Bible believing churches with an English service in the neighborhood at the time. In June 1989, Christ Church officially began as a prayer meeting with three people in Jim and Sharon’s apartment on Kimball Avenue. Today, Jim and Sharon have four adult children.

Local outreach & community activities
Soup Kitchen
Every Sunday afternoon, at 4:30pm, there is a soup kitchen that offers a full meal to the homeless and less fortunate. It also features a short bible time to be able to share some “spiritual food” as well. If you want to help out in any way, whether it be providing food, serving food or even just having a conversation with another soul, let us know!
Along with the weekly soup kitchen, we also feature an on-going clothing drive. If you have any clothing that you would like to donate, we’d be happy to accept it. Just bring it by the church and let us know and someone will take care of it.
Join us and know the blessing of what it is to give rather than receive!
34″Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37″Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40″The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ ”
Matthew 25:34-40

Beckon
Beckon is a mentoring program for urban young men ages 18-30 who have made a decision to follow Jesus. Entry for this program is restricted to fatherless young men who have been raised in a dysfunctional family setting. Most of these young men have a criminal record, have been gang affiliated, have been drug dependent, have dropped out of school, are unemployed and have a child outside of marriage.
Beckon provides assistance in job placement, attaining a GED, housing, clothing, substance abuse, anger management, parenting and support to leave the gangs.
Beckon provides spiritual fathering to help bring about spiritual maturity and to develop wise decision making. Beckon helps young men to be set free from negative poverty mindsets, to now receive a new mindset that is based on God’s Biblical truth and the power of the Holy Spirit. Beckon uses older urban men to speak truth and godly example into the lives of the young men of Beckon.
Besides weekly mentoring, Beckon has found wilderness camping and retreats to be significant times for the young men to hear the voice of GOD.
