Who we are
Emmanuel is a community church, serving the needs of the seniors, family and youth, and individuals who make up the community of Emmanuel, and reaching out to serve and welcome thesurrounding neighbourhoods of Forest Lawn, Dover, Erinwoods, Southview, and the southeast portion of Calgary;
Emmanuel Community Church was first organized as Emmanuel Lutheran Church in 1962. Our congregation at that time had predominately German and Scandinavian heritage. Over time we have become ethnically diverse, and welcome people from many different ethnicities and church traditions. Although we've changed our name, we are still part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.
The great Protestant Reformer Martin Luther (1483-1546) was determined not to break away from the church of his day but simply to reform it. Like him, we trace our spiritual rootsto the apostolic church first established by our Lord Jesus Christ. Consistent with our Reformation heritage, we recognize the church's constant need for spiritual renewal, and in the spirit of ecumenism we work together with Christians from other denominations to achieve Jesus' mission in the world.

Emmanuel Community Church History
Emmanuel Community Church was first organized as Emmanuel Lutheran Church in 1962. We are a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), a denomination to which approximately two-thirds of Canadian Lutherans belong. Although we were once drawn from predominately German and Scandinavian extraction, today we are pleased to include a wide range of ethnic diversity. Our spiritual guide is the great Protestant Reformer Martin Luther (1483-1546). However, remembering that Luther was determined not to break away from the church of his day but simply to reform it, we trace our spiritual roots before Luther’s time to the apostolic church first established by our Lord Jesus Christ. We strive to remain faithful to our Reformation heritage by recognizing the church’s constant need for spiritual renewal and are committed to true ecumenism, ie, working together with Christians from other denominations to better achieve Jesus’ mission in the world today.

Abide with us
O Holy Spirit of God, abide with us; inspire all our thoughts; pervade our imaginations; suggest all our decisions; order all our doings. Be with us in our silence and in our speech, in our haste and in our leisure, in company and in solitude, in the freshness of the morning and in the weariness of the evening; and give us grace at all times humbly to rejoice in Thy mysterious companionship.
