Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd History
The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd was established in Hastings, Nebraska by the Division of American Missions of the American Lutheran Church. The American Lutheran Church chose to organize a new church in Hastings because the Church saw Hastings as a progressive, growing community and the American Lutheran Church was not represented in Hastings.
The first worship service was held March 4, 1962, at the National Guard Armory. Services were held there until the building was finished. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in August of 1962 at 14th and Saunders.
We are still in our original location. In 1982 an addition that included a kitchen, fellowship hall, and classrooms was completed. More recently a prayer garden and a labyrinth have been added. We are a member of the ELCA and Nebraska Synod.
