Who we are
Somos uma paróquia bilingue (portuguesa e inglesa) fundada por imigrantes de Portugal sob o patrocínio de Nossa Senhora de Fátima. Nosso Church teve sua gênese em 1970.
Por muitos anos, o P. Vozza da Paróquia da Santíssima Trindade ofereceu missas mensais para os católicos portugueses de Calgary. Então, o bispo O’Byrne nomeou um padre para ajudar a comunidade portuguesa. Pe. Franklin E. Trudeau foi enviado para Portugal para aprender a língua.
Ele foi o primeiro pastor da “Missão Católica Portuguesa” e as Missas foram na Igreja Croata. A missão continuou a florescer na década de 1980, com a Paróquia de St. John estendendo a assistência de 1979 a 1984, quando a congregação adquiriu sua própria igreja improvisada.
Com a orientação entusiasta de pe. Valentino de Freitas, pároco de 1987 a 1995, a comunidade portuguesa construiu a Igreja Nossa Senhora de Fátima. Os fiéis portugueses da freguesia de Nossa Senhora de Fátima mantiveram a mensagem de Fátima a arder nos seus corações e incorporada na sua adoração desde os primeiros dias. O evento de Fátima forneceu uma bússola espiritual que guia os fiéis a Jesus através de Maria.
