Who we are
St Bartholomew’s Church has faithfully served our communities for the past 165 years; being there for everyone as a place of worship and also for special events such as Christenings, weddings and funerals, and being there to try and help when people need us.
Situated just off the A167 trunk road at the entrance to Sunderland Bridge village, the Church is the first building on the left hand side of the road. The Parish includes the villages of Croxdale, Hett and Sunderland Bridge. Parking is available along the main street through Sunderland Bridge.
Over the past three years we have continued to provide this time-honoured role, as well as making ourselves as useful as we can across our villages.
Those of you who have visited us before will know that at St Bartholomew’s we like people to feel welcome and at home - we really do want people of all ages and backgrounds to feel they can join us and join in whenever they can. Services like the Christingle and the Christmas Midnight Mass have been very well attended indeed; Our regular congregation has also increased in numbers..
We have also tried to offer events beyond the church walls, like the coffee mornings in Hett village, and the lunches held at St David’s Church Hall etc.
We are committed to do our best and to be the best church we can for all of you.

Abide in my heart
Come, Lord Jesus, and abide in my heart. How grateful I am to realize that the answer to my prayer does not depend on me at all. As I quietly abide in You and let Your life flow into me, what freedom it is to know that the Father does not see my threadbare patience or insufficient trust, rather only Your patience, Lord, and Your confidence that the Father has everything in hand. In Your faith I thank You right now for a more glorious answer to my prayer than I can imagine. Amen.
