Who we are
What kind of a Church is Trinity Presbyterian?
The church is a Word and Sacrament focused church: This means that we have a relatively simple church structure, focusing primarily on proclaiming Christ’s work through the Word and the Sacraments. Ministry of the Word and Sacrament:
More than anything else, Trinity Presbyterian Church values teaching and proclaiming what Christ has done for us. Since the entire Bible revolves around this theme, we understand that to preach the Word means to preach Christ crucified for us. (1 Cor 2:1-2, Luke 24:44-47, John 5:39, Acts 3:18-24) This encompasses what takes place in our Sunday worship services, all training, classes and Bible studies, as well as what we tell the world. The reason we also include the sacraments in this, is that they are powerful signs that God has endowed with the ability to impress on our hearts and minds what Christ has done for us. (1 Cor 11:26, 1 Pet 3:18-22) We see this idea of focusing on the Word and the Sacraments as crucial to our obedience to the Great Commission’s call to proclaim the Gospel, baptize and then teach all those who become part of the family of God. (Mt 28:18-20)
Serving one another:
In Acts 2:41-42 we see how the activity of the church was essentially described: “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” And throughout the NT it is evident that God calls the church to live life together and to bear one another's burdens. (Gal 6:10) Thus we emphasize the need to spend time together doing these very things in various contexts so that the body of Christ is built up.
Loving our neighbors:
Since Christianity is viewed with growing suspicion and/or disdain by many in our increasingly post-Christian culture, we emphasize that our evangelism needs to take place primarily through relationships. Since the Bible calls us not only to proclaim the Gospel to the non-believing world, but also to realize the debt of love that we owe to our fellow humans (Luke 10:37, Rom 13:8), we place a very high priority on encouraging our people to be building relationship with their neighbors to show them firsthand the love of Christ, and to give them the reason for our hope. (1 Pet 3:15-16)
Presbyterian:
Trinity Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). As such we subscribe to the Westminster Standards as a faithful summary of the Scriptures. Additionally, we heartily affirm the ancient Christian creeds (Nicene, Athansasian, and Apostles' Creeds) as well as other Reformation creeds (Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, Second Helvetic Confession, Canons of Dort).
