Who we are
A Community Church
In its more than a century of existence, the members of Vineland United Methodist Church have considered themselves always as a community church and have continued to strive to serve the needs of the neighborhood and beyond. Irrespective of denominations, many people in the neighborhood have associated themselves with Vineland UMC at one time or the other for their spiritual needs and in supporting the ministry. Our Education Building continues to serve the need of the community in various ways. We host meetings of various local groups such as Lions’ Club, Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) and Boy and Cub Scouts. We also provide a space for basketball practices and other family related events such as birthdays, anniversaries, bridal and baby showers, funeral and memorials.
‘Wider Missions’
As a member of the greater United Methodist Church and a part of the universal body of Christ, we also participate in ‘wider missions’ in prayer and sharing our resources, especially to help those who are economically deprived and excluded, so that they may attain their god-given potential and experience God’s love. Through the United Methodist Church and other humanitarian organizations, we support causes that seek to promote God’s love and goodwill among human beings.
‘Open Hearts / Open Doors / Open Minds’
We come together as a church because we feel called to work together to promote God’s love, justice, equality and peace in our time and generation. We consider ourselves God’s people, but we recognize that we are not perfect. So, we try not to judge or have a ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude just because we profess to be Christians. We consider ourselves simply as a people of faith on a journey and welcome any one to join us on the journey to grow in faith through worship, study, fellowship and service to and with others. We do not claim to know or have all the answers. We are simply a people on a faith journey, seeking answers to life’s tough questions and looking for a resting place for our souls. For this reason, we welcome and accept with ‘open hearts, open minds and open doors’ all who want to explore our values and beliefs and/or be a part of our fellowship. We believe that we may not think alike and that there are and will be differences among us, but we also believe that we can love and work together for the greater good of all if we let love be the core of our relationship with God and one another. So, at Vineland UMC we strive together in love just as we pray, ‘May your kingdom come; may your will be done one earth as it is in heaven.’

Vineland United Methodist Church History
Established in the spring of 1890, Vineland United Methodist Church celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2010. In the early days of its organization, the church used to be known as ‘Vineland Circuit Methodist Episcopal Church.’ Its early meetings were held at a home on 36th Lane and Hillside. In 1903, the congregation built the present sanctuary on 36th Lane and South Road. An addition was made to the original building in 1953. The 1906 original parsonage was replaced with a new one in 1960. In 1978, the church added a new building, known as the Education Building, with a gymnasium, kitchen, meeting hall and classrooms.
