Who we are
The church started in 2002 when Graham and Sue Hall sensed the call of God to leave Kings’ Church Norwich to move to Ashford, commencing public Sunday meetings at the Stour Centre. It has steadily grown as we have sought to stay true to our vision and values. From the outset we’ve wanted to be a church expressing God’s outrageous grace and modelling something of Jesus’ servant heartedness to others.
In 2006 the church launched the Gateway Furniture and Baby Equipment project at the Old Corn Store in Dover Place, Ashford. This ministry serves the Borough of Ashford helping people with low cost items, providing employment and volunteering opportunities. Each year over two thousand people receive practical help to make life work in often difficult financial situations. The project also contributes a huge environmental benefit to the Borough through preventing hundreds of tonnes of good furniture from being disposed of through landfill.
As the church continued to grow, we relocated to the North School in 2008, which provides excellent facilities, especially for our children’s ministry.
As we became more involved in helping others, it became apparent that there was a need to offer money management advice. In 2009, in association with Christians Against Poverty, we pioneered a CAP Money Management course which we have run at Sure Start Centres throughout the Borough. We now have a trained team of Money Management Coaches who run these on a regular basis.
2011 saw a remarkable thing happen. Ashford Community Church’s leadership team led by Richard Burgess felt led by God to close and join ranks with Gateway Church and become part of Newfrontiers.
2012 was a busy year. We started a new church plant into the Weald of Kent based in Tenterden. This has grown steadily as people have discovered the life changing power of the Gospel. Also that year we took out a lease on premises in the centre of Ashford in Park Mall, known as The Hub. The Hub’s focus is to be a place of healing, whether spiritual, physical, psychological or relational.
In the Spring of 2013 Simon and Andree Kemp sensed the call of God, to plant a new church into Ottawa, Canada, reproducing our Gateway DNA.
We operate a part time sports massage and physiotherapy ministry at The Hub, as well as having a regular Pain Management clinic, Healing Prayer rooms, Play Therapy, nutritional advice sessions and also twice weekly classes educating people from other cultures to learn English (ESOL).
We are currently exploring making a positive difference helping people start up enterprise businesses which are rooted in strong ethical principles.

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
