Who we are
Kia Ora, A warm welcome from Victory Church. Whether you’re simply curious or seriously seeking, you will find life and belonging in our growing church family. Our vision statement is simply ‘Cross culture. Life in Jesus shared.’ Jesus said that he came to bring life – more and better than we can ever dream of. He calls us to discover our life in his, and to live our life in community. We celebrate the fact that we are such a diverse people of different cultures, ages and backgrounds. We love how God is bringing us together into one family with Jesus at the centre. We are committed to forming deep and supportive friendships, and reaching out to our community with the life-transforming goodness that Jesus brings.
We welcome and invite you to be part of this extraordinary life-changing, life-challenging community that Jesus has called us to be. We look forward to meeting you.

Leader Bio:
I came alive in Christ in 1978 at a youth camp at Piha. It was real and sudden and I can see the Spirit led me to that time. My prayer then and now is; Father, not my will but your will be done in my life. Repenting and fully surrendering my life to faith in Jesus Christ was internally and externally transformative. I was a new person – the depth of cleanness, freedom and joy was profound. I saw life in a new way, and began making new decisions that honoured God. For over 40 years I’ve been a focused, sometimes stumbling, but always getting up again, follower of Jesus.
Grace and I married in 1981. We’ve have four children, all of whom are married and have family. So we are active grand-parents. Two of our children and three grand-children live in Nelson. Family is a big deal and huge blessing.
I went to theological college in 1978 with the Church of the Nazarene, which I grew up in. In 1981 I was licensed and appointed minister of their Whangarei church. Full ordination came in 1984. We were then appointed to the Wainuiomata Church of the Nazarene in 1985, from which we moved to Christchurch at the end of 1988 joining the ministry team at Kerrs Road Church of the Nazarene. The church was humming, packed morning and evening on Sundays. This congregation then became the Celebration Centre. We remained part of this until 1994 when to our surprise God led us to the Presbyterian Church in Hanmer Springs. We spent four years there before coming to what was the Rutherford Street Church of Christ in Nelson in 1998. At Spirit’s leading we finished our ministry there in January 2019. Over 2019 and until recently we have been meandering around Aotearoa. Serving God as he led. His word to us on leaving was to be available. More about this here: http://chasingtruth.nz/about-me/.
What we’re excited about is how God has been leading us back to our beginnings again. We are not looking at what we know and have achieved. We rely on the Spirit’s leading today to be his ministers where he arranges us in his body. God has turned me inside out over the past year, including my paradigms of his church. You can read more here, http://chasingtruth.nz/2020/02/10/gods-discipline-is-our-freedom/. A significant clarity we’ve found in God, is the call to devotion as disciples. We are seeking to establish a missional community within the Victory Church that is intentional about ‘devotion as discipleship’, understanding that true discipleship will be on mission.
We welcome and invite you to be part of this extraordinary life-changing, life-challenging community that Jesus has called us to be. We look forward to meeting you. Greg Holmes

Under 12s:
We welcome children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. They are a gift and blessing to our community. Our 10:30am Sunday service is a hive of activity. Children and adults begin by participating together in the church auditorium. We put out a variety of musical instruments for children to play. There are flags to wave and bubbles to blow. After a few songs the kids leave the service to join the Victory Kids programme. For the five to eight year old’s we have an action-packed, fun-filled programme of age-appropriate games, creative crafts and story via the Jesus Storybook curriculum helps children learn about the Christian faith and grow in their relationship with God – whilst having a great time of course. The nine year old’s and above join the youth for an engaging programme using multimedia. We also have creche facilities for those that are under five with comfortable couches and play dough. Our Under 5 Jive programme starts at 9:45am every Friday during term-time. It’s a fun creative music and movement class for pre-schoolers and their parents or caregivers.
