Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church History
The Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church was founded under the guidance of John Saarinen in 1931. The congregation met in a number of different locations until enough money had been saved to construct the present church home at the present location at Yonge and York Mills.
The long-awaited opening devotions were celebrated on November 5, 1967 with 600 people in attendance. The beautiful simplicity of the cedar and fir used within the sanctuary reflects Finnish traditions and Lutheran values. The sanctuary has excellent acoustics and can accommodate 300 worshipers.
«The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside the quiet waters, he refreshes my soul and guides me along…» A Psalm of David, Psalm 23
A new wing was completed in 1982 to better serve the congregation, and provided more space for Sunday School, as well as a nursery, office space and a meeting hall. Agricola has been the spiritual home for several generations of Finnish-Canadians and welcomes people from all ethnic backgrounds to take part in its thriving church community. In addition to Sunday services in English and Finnish, Agricola is also proud to host the Swedish congregation for their weekly services.
Agricola aims to serve all members through a diverse range of weekly activities such as: Moms and Tots, Sunday School, Confirmation Classes, Youth Events, Agricola Lutheran Women, the “Beavers”, Bible Study groups, a Choir, Social and Christian Education Ministries.
We welcome visitors and new members to come and share our church home, and grow in faith as members of God’s family. To obtain more information about services, events and activities at Agricola, please choose a link from the menu.

Make me stand out
Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision. Let me not be a milepost on a single road; make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing Christ in me.
