All Souls' Episcopal Church History
All Souls Episcopal Church in Kaycee began as a store front mission in nearby Edgerton with Louise W. Blake as a missioner to Edgerton. Blake was sponsored by United Thank Offering (UTO), and received a stipendiary to support the startup of All Souls.
In the late 1930's it was decided to build a church in Edgerton, on a hill on Campbell Street. Harry Forsythe of Buffalo was the builder and the logs were harvested in the Big Horns above Buffalo. The church never had water but did have electricity and gas.
Louise Blake served All Souls until about 1964 retiring to Casper. Dana Loshe was ordained in July of 1998 and was the first priest to be ordained in the diocese of Wyoming as a mutual-ministry ordained priest from the congregation.
The congregation had shifted from Edgerton to Kaycee and originally met at St Hubert’s Catholic Church, under the guidance of Rev. Dick Edgerton of St Luke’s in Buffalo, then on to the Methodist church in Kaycee, and then home church.
The community in Edgerton decreased and Bishop Bruce Caldwell suggested moving the church to Kaycee. With another UTO grant the church was moved with the donation of land by the Cunningham family. It arrived in Kaycee November 2006.
The Rev. Carol Buckingham became priest of All Souls Church in Kaycee in March of 2009.
As a community church, All Souls has sponsored the Food Bank at the General Store, a Sharing Shed at Christy Clevelands, QPR Suicide-Prevention training, and help wherever called. The souls of All Souls are a small community but mighty in their works around the community of Kaycee.
