Who we are
A people who follow Jesus
We believe in Jesus and the Good News of Christ. We do our best to live out the life we hear Jesus calling us to live through the pages of the Bible. We believe that the Good News of Christ offers hope, and it is our mission to share this hope with our community through our giving, our service, our mission, and our worship. We believe that God is at work in our community through the Holy Spirit and that God invites us to partner with the Holy Spirit in transforming our community through hope, love, and grace.
A people with open hands and open hearts
We love to give, serve, and love. As followers of Jesus, we believe that we are called to welcome everyone, to serve everyone, to care for everyone, and to love everyone. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you have or look like, you have a home waiting for you at Ballard UMC.
A people called United Methodists
As United Methodists we are connectional, meaning we work with others to carry out our ministries and bring more hope to more people who we would never have been able to reach on our own. Through our United Methodist connection we are fighting school segregation in New Jersey, aiding rebuilding efforts in Puerto Rico, training pastors in Tanzania, protesting immigrant detentions, and providing transformative experiences for young people.
As United Methodists we also value holiness. We believe in personal holiness, the responsibility of everyone to be the best they can be for themselves, for those around them, and for God. We also believe in social holiness, the responsibility we collectively have to transform our communal systems and ways of being so that justice, peace, and beloved community become the standards for our world. Please feel free to learn more about our Annual Conference, The Greater New Jersey United Methodist Church, which we belong to along with 550 other churches, and The United Methodist Church as a whole.

Leader Bio:
Pastor Andrew is somewhat of a wanderer. He has had various interests throughout his life, all of which have led him to the ministry. He began his education in audio production and became very involved in his home church in different leadership positions, including trustee, publicity coordinator, and treasurer. In 2017, he became a Certified Lay Servant and helped start a midweek contemporary service and a prison ministry at his home church. During this time, Pastor Andrew realized he was being called to ministry and changed his major to accounting, hoping to find a secular vocation that would serve well in a church setting. While serving as a young adult delegate to the 2019 Greater New Jersey Annual Conference, he finally accepted God was calling him and entered seminary the following year.
He has three associates degrees from Brookdale Community College (remember how he is a wanderer?) and also graduated from Georgian Court University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He is currently in his second year of studies at Drew Theological School, pursuing a Master of Divinity in United Methodist Ministry, as well as an additional Graduate Certificate in Restorative Justice and Prison Ministry. He has a strong passion for prison ministry, at one time desiring to become a prison chaplain. Even though he has realized he is more called to fulltime ministry in a church, his passion has not dwindled, often teaching others about the effects of mass incarceration and Jesus' call toward compassion, love, and justice. This has been fueled by his strong beliefs that the love and grace of God is available to everyone, regardless of background or present state, and that each person has been made in, and carries with them, the image of God.
Pastor Andrew was appointed to Ballard UMC in July of 2020 as a pulpit supply pastor and now serves as a Licensed Local Pastor. He is also a Certified Candidate in the ordination process in the United Methodist Church of Greater New Jersey. Outside of ministry, his interests include singing (often loudly in the car), accounting and taxation, Broadway, and Star Wars.

Dress Code
You can wear whatever is comfortable for you! That's what our worshipers do! Some of our worshipers dress in their Sunday best, following the tradition of their families, while others dress for the season with shorts and short sleeves in the summer and long pants and long sleeves in the winter. We are much less interested in what you wear and much more interested in welcoming you to our family of faith, so please dress in whatever way allows you to relax and worship God.
