Who we are
We are a called-out assembly of born-again believers who have a desire to serve God in every capacity of our lives. From the beginning, Bethel Baptist Church has endeavored to make a difference in people’s lives through the practical teaching and powerful preaching of the Word of God. We believe church is a place where people come to Worship the Lord and find spiritual guidance for every day life. We would love for you and your family to join us as we Worship and Serve the Lord with the lives and time God has blessed us with!
Here at Bethel Baptist Church, you will find a Pastor and Church who loves and cares for people. Regardless of age, race, or background – you will be Welcomed! We want Bethel to feel like a it has always been home!
We sing the Old-fashioned hymns and songs that praise and glorify our Saviour – nothing contemporary that is based on worldly music. You will hear our Pastor teach and preach truthful, practical, challenging messages from the King James Bible.
For those of you who have children, a Nursery will be provided from new-born to age 3. You will be able to enjoy our services “worry-free” as our ladies will take care of your children as if they were their own! During our Sunday morning service, we have a Bible Explorers class available to all children ages 4-12 – they will sing songs, play games, and learn truths found in God’s Word.
Many of our church members believe in wearing their “Sunday best” when attending our services – however, this is not required. We would simply be excited to have you join us for our services!

Pastor Matt Sandiford grew up in a Christian home. From Calvary Baptist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, FL to Hope Baptist Church in Toledo, OH, church had always been a part of Pastor Matt’s life. He trusted Christ as his Saviour in August 1986. At 16, God laid on his heart the call to preach. After graduating high school in 2000, he began attending Hope Institute of the Scriptures at Hope Baptist Church. Since his father was the Associate Pastor at Hope and Pastor Matt was actively involved in many of the ministries at Hope, God allowed him to remain active in the church he grew up in while preparing him for the ministry. After graduating the Bible institute in June 2003, he married Mrs. Sarah in July 2003.
After spending a short internship at Branch Hill Baptist Church in Loveland, OH, God moved Pastor Matt and Mrs. Sarah to Rice’s Valley Baptist Church in Northport, AL where he served the Lord as Youth Pastor and Music Director from February 2005 – February 2012. In February 2012, God allowed Pastor Matt to become the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Gordo, AL, where he and his family served the Lord faithfully until God moved him to Bethel Baptist Church in March 2019.
Pastor Matt and Mrs. Sarah have 5 children and have a desire to see the Lord work in their lives, their family, and at Bethel Baptist Church. They love the Lord and His people and would like to the say “Thank You” for taking a moment to visit Bethel Baptist Church.

Bethel Baptist Church History
On October 21, 1984, Bethel Baptist Church held its first service in a building off Hwy 41. Pastor Nile Stine had been led by the Lord to establish a church in Citrus County and God allowed him to found “Inverness Baptist Church”. Since the building the church was meeting in was only available to them on Sundays, Pastor and Mrs. Sharon Stine held Wednesday night services in their home.
After receiving special offerings over several years for a land purchase, “Inverness Baptist Church” was able to purchase 4+ acres in July 1990 on N McGee Drive where the current church property is located. Unable to purchase a building for the property, the Church continued to meet in the building off Hwy 41. In 1993, the church name was officially changed to “Bethel Baptist Church”.
In October 1993, Bethel Baptist Church was informed that the building they were meeting in was going to be sold – they had to find a new place to worship the Lord. While continuing to receive special offerings to put a building on the new property, they began meeting at the Inverness Women’s Club on January 2, 1994. On July 16, 1995, Bethel Baptist Church held its first service in their new building on the new property located at 2289 N McGee Dr Hernando, FL.
Pastor Nile Stine remained the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church until March 2019 – almost 35 years in service to the Lord at Bethel! In November 2018, Bethel Baptist Church called Matthew Sandiford to be their new pastor. Pastor Sandiford continues to be the Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, today.
