Who we are
Our Mission: Win Train Send
The mission of the Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church can be summed up in these three words: Win – Train – Send. We know that a great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will grow a great church.
First, we must Win people to Christ. We believe in “every member” evangelism. Each of us must spread the gospel at home, work, school and in your neighborhood by sharing the ABC’s of salvation with them: Admit your sin, Believe in Jesus as your Savior and Confess Jesus as your Savior and Lord.
Second, we must Train believers to become disciples. The Cavanaugh Church is dedicated to training people to grow in their Christianity through our small groups and Sunday School classes. Each of us was created to become like Christ and this only occurs when we practice discipleship.
Last, we must then Send disciples to impact the world. God has called each of us to be the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.” As such, the Cavanaugh Church is dedicated to sending people for their mission “possible” – to go out into the world and fulfill God’s plan for their life.

Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church History
Our History
Cavanaugh Church began in 1962 as a mission. One year later Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church was officially organized and moved into our original building which was located at 7817 Holly Street in the Cavanaugh community of Fort Smith, Arkansas. We began with 32 charter members and Rev. Dick Shipley as our pastor.
Our church was blessed and grew. With faith that God would continue to bless us, we purchased land and built a new sanctuary and educational building at 2825 Grinnell Avenue, our present location.
Six years later, a small gym and fellowship hall was added. This building now houses our childcare ministry, the Cavanaugh Children’s Center. Our Children’s Center consists of childcare program for children ages 2-5 years old and also provides a Christian kindergarten program for 4-5 year olds.
In 1992, we began construction on a new 650 seat sanctuary. The building also includes six Sunday school classrooms, three classrooms for our Wee Worship and a choir rehearsal room. Our new sanctuary was completed in June of 1993. With our new sanctuary, the original sanctuary became our Family Life Center.
We added a 10,000 square foot Administration and Education Complex in 1999 which has offices for the staff plus nine classrooms.
Over all, Cavanaugh Church has approximately 50,000 square feet of space dedicated to worshipping and honoring God.

Open our ears.
Blessed Lord, open our ears to hear what Thou speakest and our eyes to see as Thou seest. Give us hearts to beat in sympathy with Thine at the sight of every little child; and above all, our Lord, to understand and experience how surely and how blessedly Thou fulfilest Thy promise, "Whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me."
