Who we are

Central Baptist Church was founded in 1978 by Pastor Russell Fox as an outreach of Central Baptist Church of Pomona, California. Initially meeting in rented buildings, the congregation eventually purchased the current property at Harvard and Bullard Ave. Two buildings originally stood on the property, which served as the church's meeting places for several years. In 2006, a new multipurpose building was completed, facing Bullard Ave., to accommodate the growing congregation. The church continues to utilize the original two buildings alongside the newer addition. In 2008, Dr. James Woodley was called as the present pastor, continuing the church's mission and serving its community.

Pastor James Woodley's path to ministry began during his college years in Chico, California, where he found salvation in 1971. Shortly after this life-changing experience, he felt a calling to serve in ministry. He pursued his theological education at Northwest Baptist Seminary in Tacoma, Washington, earning a Master of Divinity degree.

Despite facing challenges during his doctoral studies at Northwest Graduate School, Pastor Woodley persevered and successfully completed his Doctor of Theology degree at Salt Lake Baptist College. Over the span of 40 years, he has not only served as a pastor but also shared his knowledge in various Christian schools and Bible colleges.

In 1977, Pastor Woodley met Jane West at Grace Baptist Church of Chico, and they married soon after. Their union has been blessed with six children. Jane's dedication to the church's music ministry, spanning over five decades, reflects the enduring commitment of the Woodley family to their faith and community.
