Chelmsford Community Church Q&A

Answer: Chelmsford Community Church meets every Sunday at 10.30am. The service is livestreamed on Facebook if you can't make it.We meet at:
Trent Road Centre,
Trent Road,
CM1 2LQ.
Question: What should I expect when I visit the church?
Answer: You will receive a very warm welcome, particularly from our Welcome Team, who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go. There will be approximately 10-20 mins of singing and prayers. After the sung worship, there will be a preach from one of the leaders at Chelmsford Community Church - with a chance to respond at the end of the service. We usually have a chance for more singing after the preach and we aim to finish our service by about 11:30am.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after our service, giving time to meet new people and ask more questions.
Question: What sort of a church are you?
Answer: Chelmsford Community Church was born out of the house-church movement, over 40 years ago. As time has gone by, there have been many changes to the way we do things. We are not governed by any other organisation, but we are affiliated to Ground Level. The leadership team have total responsibility for how the church operates, although much advice is taken before decisions are made. We have excellent relationships with many of the other Pastors in Chelmsford, India and the Ukraine.Question: What happens to the children at church?
Answer: We have a fantastic programme for the children and young people at Chelmsford Community Church. Children stay with their parents for the first part of the service as we worship together. Someone will announce when the children and young adults need to go to their groups. If you are planning to come, your children are able to remain with you for the entire service - it doesn't matter if they make a bit of noise. For more information about what happens in the children's work please look at the children's work and youth pages.
Question: Is there a dress code?
Answer: No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.Question: Will I have to join in?
Answer: Not at all! You are free to simply observe or participate, as much as feels comfortable for you! Don't feel under any pressure to get involved in anything that is happening.Question: We may be running late ... is that okay?
Answer: Of course it is! You can sneak in at the back at anytime. If you have children with you, they can be directed to their various sessions! If it's your first time, ask one of the welcome team on the door where to go.Question: I have more questions, how can I get in touch and ask them?
Answer: Please feel free to contact us.If you want to know who runs the church, check out our Staff and Leadership page.

Chelmsford Community Church History
Church Origins
Chelmsford Community Church was started in 1974 to be a church that embraced the new wave of enthusiasm for the Christian faith. It has met in several locations over its almost 50-year history – but established its home base in 2014.
Our Trent Road Centre has a been a church since the 1950s, operating as a United Reformed Church for many years. Chelmsford Community Church bought the building in June 2014 and after re-fitting and furnishing it was re-opened.
The current membership is 60 adults with regular attendance of over 50 adults and children. Since opening the doors of Trent Road we have squeezed over 150 into the building on special occasions! Co-operation and Community Involvement
The church has consistently sought to engage with other churches and is a member of "Christians Together in Chelmsford" (CTiC), which is the cross-church organisation operating in the city. Chelmsford Community Church has been instrumental in inter-church initiatives. It organised the "Prayer for Transforming Chelmsford" meetings held at the Shire Hall and attended by many church members throughout Chelmsford. We regularly prayed that Chelmsford would become a city. The church initiated "Chelmsford Praise" in the Cathedral – a series of city-wide services that brought international names to Chelmsford (including Tony Campolo, spiritual advisor to President Clinton) as well as local dignitaries.
The church has maintained a policy over many years of giving a percentage of its income to agencies and causes that are outside of the church.
Wider associations
Chelmsford Community Church is an independent church, but is linked in to the Ground Level association of churches. We also have close links with Covenant Blessings Church in India.

Make me stand out
Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision. Let me not be a milepost on a single road; make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing Christ in me.
