Who we are
WELCOME TO Christ Church!
We are a community of people -- some of us committed disciples of Jesus Christ and others who are spiritual seekers at different points in the journey -- all of whom have found a welcoming spiritual home at Christ Church. This church welcomes all people without preference for age, ability, gender, race, ethnic or religious background, sexual orientation, marital or family status. We desire to know ourselves and one another as God knows us -- as beloved children of God -- and to embody Jesus' own example of radical hospitality. As we say in our welcome to Communion, "This is the Lord's feast, and all are welcomed to the table!"
Worship is central to what we do here. We value beauty in music and liturgy. People from various backgrounds find meaning in our liturgy, which is both ancient and modern. Our choirs welcome people of various ages and abilities to use their talents to the glory of God. Others serve in various roles as acolytes, eucharistic ministers, lectors, ushers, on the altar guild, and as vergers.
We also value lifelong Christian formation, with programs for infants, young children, youth, and adults of all ages. Our Montessori-based Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program meets children where they are and draws on their God-given potential for spiritual growth and development. Our Journey to Adulthood program encourages adolescents to pay attention to all the ways they are growing in body, soul, and spirit through engagement with scripture and spiritual resources appropriate to their developmental needs. For adults there are Bible study, prayer, and book groups that try to address the spiritual, intellectual, and fellowship needs of our members.
We also value service, in reaching out to those in need of food, shelter, or clothing, those who need healing, or a deeper sense of belonging. We operate a local Thrift Shop with low cost clothing and household items. We participate in feeding ministries, Habitat For Humanity, community organizing through the Merrimack Valley Project, and a variety of other service and empowerment ministries. We helped to found the Esperanza Academy, and many in our parish serve in a variety of roles at this free-tuition Episcopal middle school for girls in the city of Lawrence. We engage in global mission work through relationships in Haiti, Rwanda, El Salvador and Israel/Palestine. Many of our parishioners have traveled to these places on mission-pilgrimages.
In other words, there's something for just about everyone here at Christ Church! We look forward to meeting you. And we know that our life together will be enriched by your presence with us. Welcome!
