Who we are
The congregation of Christ Church Lively was established in 1953 from a congregation that had been meeting in Creighton. Under the guidance of the Rev. Arthur Crisp (1953-1970) the congregation provided a focal point for activities centred around the Church and reaching into the community. A Youth Choir was established and often made an appearance at the Kiwanis Music Festival. The Anglican Church Women’s group provided a gathering place for many of the young mothers who were part of the newly formed town of Lively. Using the liturgy and traditions of the Anglican Church the congregation grew and the building was improved and cared for.
During the incumbency of the Rev. Frank Doe (1985- 1994) extensive renovations were performed - particularly in the basement area. This improved the conditions in the parish hall for the Sunday School and made it easier to hold the annual dinners that were used as a time of fellowship and fund-raising. The congregation worked hard at building up the membership and hosted an Evangelistic Crusade.
Further building improvements were completed during the incumbency of the Rev. Harry Huskins and the Ven. Susan DeGruchy (1995 - 2000) the bell tower was changed so that it could finally house a church bell. The bell was obtained from St. Augustine’s Church in Whitefish Falls after that building was deconsecrated. Children love to ring the bell before service each Sunday. All of these improvements were done to help the congregation fulfill its mandate more effectively.
The congregation continues to try to find ways of helping out in the community. Currently a group of people volunteer to serve breakfast to the High School Students of Lively High. Another group provides sandwiches for the street people downtown. The Women’s group helps out various organizations including the “Grannies in Africa” program sponsored by the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Each year the congregation cooks and serves breakfast for the Walden Winter Carnival and gives the proceeds to the Walden Boy Scouts, the Waters Girl Guides, and the Friendship Group that meets at the Kinsmen Hall in Lively. Sunday School, Nursery services, and Adult Bible studies are also part of our life here at Christ Church. This is but a sample of the many ways in which the congregation helps out in the community.
