Who we are
Our Mission Statement
"We belong to God through Jesus Christ. Loving God and neighbor, we study and strive to live God’s Word. Following Christ’s example, we reach out to the world with the Good News of the Gospel."
The Presbyterian Church Presbyterians come in all shapes and sizes, from farms and fields and high rises and mountain dwellings. They are from every country, from every color, and from every age. All share the belief that God’s love has been shown through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s only Son and our Savior.
Within the fellowship of Christ in the Presbyterian Church, there is hope for tomorrow, room for debate, acceptance and love for those different from ourselves, and the promise that God’s love renews and refreshes us.

Rev. Lory D. Ryan
I'm a Jersey Guy! Born in Trenton, New Jersey, I was raised in Ewing Township, New Jersey along with my twin brother Richard.
I was raised in a Presbyterian family, and became a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Trenton, New Jersey. My journey to parish ministry was sparked at age 16 after preaching my first sermon at Vincentown Baptist Church in Vincentown, New Jersey, where my grandfather was a member. I graduated from Susquehanna University in 1985 with a BA in Economics, and was inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society for Social Sciences. After graduating from Susquehanna University, I began a career as a commercial insurance professional, where I worked for 28 years in underwriting, sales and marketing.
A graduate of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, I attended seminary on a part-time basis while I continued to work full time in my insurance career. I completed my Masters of Divinity graduating Cum Laude in May 2009. During my last year in seminary, I completed an extended unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at the JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. After graduation, I worked in collaboration with the Office of Pastoral Care at JFK Medical Center and the Metuchen Clergy Association authoring the first multi-faith Prayer Book for the JFK Medical Center Pastoral Care Department in August 2009. This multi-faith Prayer Book is still in use today not only by the Chaplain Interns and clergy, but by patients and their families as well.
My transition to full time ministry happened in February 2015 when I was Ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church, USA, and installed as Pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church here in Marlton, NJ. Shortly after my arrival, I joined with other clergy of all faiths in Marlton to participate in the Evesham Township Police Department Police Chaplain Program. Upon completion of the required training in April 2015, I was sworn in as part of the Evesham Township Police Department in July 2015, and continue to volunteer and complete additional training in this role as a Police Chaplain for the agency. December 1, 2018 I was selected to be the Police Chaplain Coordinator for the team of Evesham Township Police Department's Police Chaplains for a 1-year term.
An avid outdoorsman and Scouter, I am currently an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 33 chartered by the West Trenton Presbyterian Church in Ewing, New Jersey. I am an active member of the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters, and a member of the National Eagle Scout Association. I have also been a member for 41 years in the Order of the Arrow, an honor society for campers affiliated with the Boys Scouts of America.
Not only do I enjoy camping, but I also love the Jersey shore and beach. I participated in the February 2013 Polar Bear plunge in Sea Isle City, New Jersey to help raise money for Autism research. For the past four years, I have participated in an annual 5K run in Atlantic City, New Jersey every June to raise money for the New Jersey Special Olympics. My wife Cindy and I were married in June 2015, and in September 2016 we bought our new home and reside in Marlton, New Jersey.

Christ Presbyterian Church History
Our History
In the fall of 1961, Monmouth Presbytery began to plan and form the congregation know as Christ United Presbyterian Church. Through the efforts of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill, the Reverend Carl Wolff, Associate Synod Executive, and the Committee on National Missions of Monmouth Presbytery, worship began on the second Sunday in September. In January, the Reverend Robert C. Sackman was called to be the organizing pastor, and services were held in School No. 1 on Maple Avenue and later at the Helen L. Beeler School.
On October 28, 1962, Christ United Presbyterian Church, with a membership of 81, was chartered by the Presbytery of Monmouth. In June 1964, the church was transferred to the Presbytery of West Jersey.
The Reverend Sackman concluded his pastorate in August 1968, and The Reverend Peter van Lierop was called. Following Rev. van Lierop’s resignation, The Reverend Eloise Cowherd served as Interim Pastor. The Reverend George Betz was called in 1976 and served until 1981 when The Reverend Daniel Barfield was appointed as Interim Pastor. He was installed as pastor in 1982 and remained until 1991. In that same year The Rev. Patricia Epprecht was appointed Stated Supply Pastor and continued in that role until she retired in December 2012. The Rev. Thomas Purchase served as Interim Pastor until February 2015, when our new Pastor was installed, Rev. Lory D. Ryan.
