Christ The Redeemer Lutheran Church History
Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church was formed in 1996 when Christ in Dollard-des-Ormeaux merged with Redeemer from Westmount. Members from a wide variety of backgounds and communities in southwestern Quebec comprise our congregation. We belong to the Eastern Synod, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.
Our primary gathering each week is Sunday worship, but we also meet and work together to learn about God's grace, invite others to join us, and to care for people in our community and around the world. The remaining pages on this website will tell you more about us.
Lutherans are members of the Christian Church, which was called into being through the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, and established by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit about 2000 years ago. We recognise other Christians as our sisters and brothers, and relate to people of other faiths with kindness and respect.
Our denomination emerged when Martin Luther posted 95 complaints about the practices of his church in Germany on 31 October 1517. He was especially determined to remind others that "we are saved by grace, through faith." The leadership of the church asked Luther to retract what he had written, and when he refused to do so he was excommunicated. Supporters of his were eager to learn from him, making his Small Catechism a very popular document of the sixteenth century.
Lutherans have been coming to Canada since the early part of the seventeenth century. In Montreal many Lutherans came as refugees and immigrants from Europe after the Second World War. There are still several ethnic (Chinese, Danish, Estonian, Finnish, German, and Latvian) Lutheran congregations in Montreal, which have formed the Montreal Lutheran Council.

Accept, O Lord
Accept, O Lord, my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my will. All that I am and have thou hast given to me; and I give all back to thee to be disposed of according to they good pleasure. Give me only the comfort of thy presence and the joy of thy love; with thee I shall be more than rich and shall desire nothing more.
