Who we are
Copse Road Chapel is an evangelical free church. Our desire is to worship God, to love one another, and to make disciples of all the nations.
A congregation of Bible-believing Christians has met in Copse Road regularly for more than 160 years. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and that preaching and teaching God’s Word is very important. Our Basis of Faith is substantially the same as that of the FIEC.
We are firmly committed to the use of the best of both traditional and modern Christian music. We use a wide selection of traditional hymns and modern songs. Congregational singing is usually led either by keyboard or guitar, and sometimes by an organ. The Bible version used is the English Standard Version (ESV) – though, as in most congregations, there are also adherents of other versions too.
The midweek meeting varies. Some weeks we have a prayer meeting and Bible study on a Wednesday evening at the chapel. Other weeks we have home groups which meet on a Wednesday evening and a Thursday afternoon. Please ring 01275 878490 or 01275 342205 for further details.
The word “Church” means we are a fellowship of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, among whom the Word of God is preached and practised. The purpose and aim of our church is to worship the triune God, to strengthen and establish believers in the Christian faith, and to evangelise the unsaved.
The term “Free” means that this church is not controlled or financed by any denominational headquarters, but that as a local company of believers we are directly accountable to the Lord and trust Him to supply all our needs. We are free to worship Him according to His Word and are not bound by any ecclesiastical laws.
The word “Evangelical” comes from the Greek word for “gospel” and indicates that we believe and proclaim the truths of the gospel which are contained in our Basis of Faith.
