Who we are
Welcome!
Our welcome is extended to all. We don't mind what you think or believe. We will listen to what you want to say. We will welcome you whatever your beliefs, if your beliefs bring you to community in respect and inclusivity.
We each aim to practice our own private belief system, long enough and seriously enough that we no longer harbour the fear that another belief can insult or affect our own.
Unitarians are people on a search for what they can believe, and who are ready to live within an open and inclusive community of differently-minded other people, who are likewise on their own search.
Words and ideas that keep cropping up for us are oneness, conscience, integrity, compassion, community, justice, respect for difference, reverence, connectedness, open-mindedness. For some but not all of us, the words prayer, presence and worship are also very important.
Our history shows us to be a collection of people, “a collection of religious seekers, trying to work out what's really important in religion, laying aside one thing after the other: creeds, Bible, doctrine, to get to something that's beneath all of those things.” (quote from Rev Stephen Lingwood, Unitarian minister at Bolton)

Didymus (Unitarians in Ringwood) History
There have been Unitarians in Ringwood since at least 1727, when they built the Meeting House. But the original congregation ran out of steam in 1976 and sold the Meeting House to a charitable civic trust, which now operates the building as a family history and heritage centre, with a coffee shop. But a new, follow-on fellowship started up in 2014, and has been hiring the Meeting House for gatherings and worship ever since. The building is still licensed for worship, including all types of weddings, funerals, memorial services and baby namings.

"Prayer is not so much an act as it is an attitude - an attitude of dependency, dependency upon God".
