Who we are
DOUGLASUCC
Everyone Welcome! No Exceptions!
No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
At the Douglas Congregational
United Church of Christ, our Mission is to grow together spiritually as Progressive Christians, welcoming all, pursuing peace, justice, love and healing for all creation.
We demonstrate this by:
Being Open and Affirming
Acting as a Creation Justice Church
Respecting and Understanding All Belief and Faith Traditions
Recognizing and Celebrating Our Connectedness to All Peoples
Valuing Questions Rather than Answers
What is the UCC?
The UCC (United Church of Christ) has over 5,000 congregations and over one million members in the United States. The denomination places high emphasis on participation in worldwide interfaith and ecumenical efforts and has historically favored progressive views on social issues, such as civil, gay, and women's rights.
Among its rich history of many "firsts": The first mainline Christian denomination to ordain an African-American minister; the first to ordain a woman minister; the first to ordain a gay minister; the first to ordain a transgender minister; and the first to openly sanction same-sex unions. It is known as the church of "Extravagant Welcome."
What is "Open & Affirming"?
Douglas UCC is proud to be among the first to become recognized as an Open & Affirming (ONA) church, affirming the full inclusion of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender persons (LGBT) in the church's life and ministry. To learn more, visit: www.ucccoalition.org
What is a "Progressive Christian"?
Douglas UCC is a designated member of The Center For Progressive Christianity. By calling ourselves Progressive Christians, we mean that we recognize the faithfulness of other people who have other names for the way to God and acknowledge that their ways are true for them, as our ways are true for us. To learn more, visit: www.progressivechristianity.org
What is a "Creation Justice Church"?
Douglas UCC is a Creation Justice Church, a congregation that is committed to seeing the interconnectedness of all of God’s creation, to practice wise stewardship of the Earth's resources, and to provide outreach in the community for environmental concerns: www.ducccreationjusticeteam.wordpress.com

Grant me, O Lord...
Grant me, O Lord, to know what I ought to know,to love what I ought to love, to praise what delights Thee most, to value what is precious in Thy sight, to hate what is offensive to Thee. Do not suffer me to judge according to the sight of my eyes, nor to pass sentence according to the hearing of the ears of ignorant men; but to discern with a true judgment between things visible and spiritual, and above all, always to inquire what is the good pleasure of Thy will.
