We're a church defined by grace
If we could grasp the revolutionary aspect of grace, what would our lives look like?
Many people come to believe if they could just be good and try harder, then perhaps they would be loved and accepted by God. This is not the message of the Gospel. Scripture says God loves sinners. There's nothing we can do to earn His unconditional love and acceptance. This is grace.
We're a church made up of people who come from all kinds of experiences, stories, and brokenness—but, we have embraced the grace of Jesus Christ in our lives.
Background
From our beginnings, we've been about communicating the grace of God locally and globally. ENCOUNTER began under the name of Bible Fellowship Church in a home here in Ventura by a group of local families in 1953 who gathered to pray, study, and share the vision of reaching the community with the grace of Jesus Christ.
We moved in to what is now The PLEX in 1967, and in 1999 added the Auditorium where ENCOUNTER meets today. Our church is not connected to any official denomination. We are Gospel-centered and intergenerational. Learn more about what we believe here.
Dr. Daniel Hahn began his ministry here in 2000 and became the Lead Pastor in 2007.

Middle School meets Sunday 10:30 am in The PLEX and Wednesday 7 pm in The PLEX
High School meets Sunday 10:30 am in The PLEX and Tuesday 7 pm in The PLEX
We have three weekend gatherings (known as ENCOUNTER) on Saturday at 6 pm and Sunday at 9 or 10:45 am. Each service has the same speaker and worship team. We have children's programs at all three services.
When you arrive, there are people wearing yellow 'host” name tags to help you find your way. There is also a 'welcome' banner on our patio with a host there to meet you and show you around.
Our ENCOUNTER service starts with singing some songs of worship led by a team of musicians. There is a brief welcome and update about what’s happening. The pastor will give a relevant, Bible-based talk. We end by singing together. The whole service lasts an hour and 15 minutes.
After ENCOUNTER, hang out and enjoy a cup of coffee on our patio. We look forward to meeting you!

We believe church should be fun! This is a place to sing loud, ask questions, and make friends.
Each weekend at Kids' Cove, your children will learn how the Bible fits into their lives. They'll discover how to talk to Jesus through prayer, stories, music and crafts. And they'll build some lasting friendships!
At Kids' Cove, we focus on small groups so that kids can get to know each other and their small group leader. It's important to make sure your child connects with the same friends and same leader at the same hour every weekend.
We have an incredible team of staff and volunteers who are ready to serve your kids. We can't wait to meet your children!

Lord, teach me to listen.
The times are noisy and my ears are weary with the thousand raucous sounds which continuously assault them. Give me the spirit of the boy Samuel when he said to Thee, "Speak, for Thy servant heareth." Let me hear Thee speaking in my heart. Let me get used to the sound of Thy voice, that its tones may be familiar when the sounds of earth die away and the only sound will be the music of Thy speaking. Amen.
