Who we are
Welcome to Freedom Church
We are a mixed group of people that are all at varying stages of exploring a journey of faith, who gather together out of a common desire to worship God and live out our Christian Faith in a way that is relevant to the world we are all a part of. As a result of doing that journey together we recognise that change is inevitable and experience tells us that by allowing Jesus to be at the heart of those changes we gain a fresh purpose and enthusiasm for life which is summed up by our mission statement: “transforming people who don’t know Jesus into whole hearted disciples who do” .
We meet in a village setting and are blessed to be able to bless our local community with the facilities we have but we are more than just a village church in outlook and impact, being involved in initiatives, ministries & missions in the local area, nationally and internationally.
Our main meeting of the week starts each Sunday at 10am lasting for an hour and a half or so. The service style is informal and participative with a mix of people leading. We use a combination of contemporary music played by the band and some great hymns that we all know and love. Dress code is more jeans and sweatshirts than best suits and we hope that you will find a friendly welcome and be happy to stay for a decent cup of coffee afterwards. There are age related activities for children each Sunday and a number of other activities going on throughout the week.
Our Mission and Vision
The mission of Freedom Church continues to be "transforming people who don’t know Jesus into wholehearted disciples who do" as that was what Jesus himself commissioned his church to do in Matthew 28:19-20 "making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." It has been such a delight recently to see people coming to faith in Jesus and choosing to be baptised ,and the ministry of making disciples and teaching Gods word is an ongoing one.
The threefold vision, that God has recently given us, is the means by which we see the mission being accomplished; by establishing this church as 1) A place where God dwells, 2) A resource centre and 3) A heart for our Community.
1) A Place Where God Dwells
When we talk about the church, we need to emphasise that we are talking about the people that are the body of the church and not the building that we meet in. We are being uilt together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit (Ephesians 2:22) God is enthroned on the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3) and dwells in us (1 Corinthians 3:16) and it is the people of this church that we see being the place where God dwells to the extent that as others meet with us, wherever we may meet, they will know God's presence. That simply gets magnified as we gather together for worship as an assembly of people in whom God dwells and as a result of that we should see great things happening including salvation, healing, restoration and an outpouring of God's holy spirit.
Our first step is prayer - communicating with and being in the presence of God
2) A Resource Centre
As a church we have a great history of pioneering in mission, ministry & business. We long to see that spirit of equipping and sending people out to make a difference in the world they are called to continue to increase. That we will be able to provide teaching, prayer, practical skills and resources to enable and release a whole new generation of pioneers and entrepreneurs over the coming years. Just as God commissioned Joshua (Joshua 1:2-9) we want to see the land occupied for God by God's people.
Our first step is to give - to be a resource centre we need to bring our resources, skills and time to God
3) A Heart for our Community
Starting where we are with the people that God has put around us we recognise that building relationship with others is a long term commitment. God's promise to Abraham was that his descendants would bless the whole earth (Genesis 22:18) and we now get to share in that (Galatians 3:29). That was no overnight project that God assigned but we are committed for the long term to fulfilling one of God's earliest commissions for His people.
Our first step is to connect - to really get to know people around us and allow them to get to know us and the God who dwells within us.
Enjoy taking those first steps over the next few months as we see the vision unfold

Freedom Church History
Pastor Cornelius Elven was the first pastor of Garland Street Baptist Church he would walk from Bury St. Edmunds to Conyers Green each week to preach. Many villages were converted to Christianity and regularly walked to Garland Street to attend Sunday morning services.
Between 1875 and 1894 evening meetings were held in a cottage on Conyers Green. The cottage still stands there today. In 1894 a Mission Hall was opened on the Conyers Green. The Mission Hall stood adjacent to Livermere Road just before the turning into Vicarage Farm. The fellowship prospered under the guidance of the Garland Street Church until 1948 when the Church at Great Barton became independent and at the same time sought to find the means to construct a larger building. The new building became a reality in 1956 when the present church building was completed in Mill Road. Later the old Mission Hall building was moved to its present site behind the church where it continues to serve us well.

Abide in my heart
Come, Lord Jesus, and abide in my heart. How grateful I am to realize that the answer to my prayer does not depend on me at all. As I quietly abide in You and let Your life flow into me, what freedom it is to know that the Father does not see my threadbare patience or insufficient trust, rather only Your patience, Lord, and Your confidence that the Father has everything in hand. In Your faith I thank You right now for a more glorious answer to my prayer than I can imagine. Amen.
