Leader Bio:
District Elder Bernard Samuel Kendrick, the eldest son of Evangelist S. C. Kendrick and Missionary Janet Kendrick, was born in Chicago and received his undergraduate education in Chicago City Colleges, Moody Bible Institute, and Urban Ministries Seminary. Pastor Kendrick gave his life to Christ at an early age, at the A.O. H. Bowen Avenue Church in Chicago. Elder Kendrick was called to preach in the ministry in 1974 and was ordained in 1977.

In 1979, the Lord led Elder Kendrick to Bethel Apostolic Church where he assisted Elder John Morris for six years. Elder Kendrick also became an active member in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) Illinois District Council (IDC). In 1986, Elder Kendrick organized a bible study group, and from this seed he founded Glad Tidings Apostolic Assembly in Bolingbrook, Illinois, under the PAW. God has blessed his ministry and his congregation to grow and flourish in the Bolingbrook area, and the ministry is well known throughout Bolingbrook and surrounding areas.

Elder Kendrick has held several offices in the IDC including Assistant Secretary and Secretary of the Pastor's Alliance of the Illinois District Council. He was appointed District Elder over the 6th District, Illinois District Council of the PAW in January 1995. Elder Kendrick also holds positions with the Bolingbrook community as a member of the Bolingbrook Clergy Association, Police Chaplain for the Bolingbrook Police Department, and a member of the International Police Chaplain's Association. He has also produced and hosted several local radio broadcast ministries on stations WDND and WKBM in Joliet. District Elder Kendrick was an employee of FedEx Corporation for over 20 years until he retired in November 2002.

God has given Pastor Kendrick a spiritual vision to lead the congregation of GTAA and to build. A man of integrity and purpose, Elder Kendrick has a big heart of compassion and caring for the people of God, in his church and community. He devotes time and substance untiringly to the ministry, the surrounding community, and other churches in the community and his district. He has developed many programs to promote growth in our church and community, and God has blessed him with being able to reach out to people of various backgrounds, denominations, and races.

District Elder Kendrick has been married to Elect Lady Rena Kendrick for 38 years. They have three lovely children, Tracy, Bernard and his wife Latonya and Janea and her husband Anthony, and three grandchildren Jeremiah, Anthony and Josiah.   Edit

Glad Tidings Apostolic Assembly is a church rich in the traditions of the Pentecostal Church. We praise enthusiastically, because we rejoice in what the Lord has done for us. We worship joyfully, because we love the Lord, and truly, He is worthy of all honor.

During our worship, you will witness us clapping, singing joyfully, and dancing before the Lord. All of these things are scriptural forms of praise found throughout the book of Psalms. Feel free to join us — you'll be surprised how much better you will feel. But if you are comfortable sitting silently, please feel free to do so.

Glad Tidings Apostolic Assembly History

District Elder Bernard Samuel Kendrick founded Glad Tidings Apostolic Assembly (GTAA) in August 1986. Our history is filled with a steadfast commitment and dedication to the vision and purpose of glorifying God, ministering to the sick and downcast, and uplifting the lives of our members and those in the surrounding community.

Our initial membership included twelve people, who met for bible study in the basement of one of their homes. One of the major trials that GTAA has overcome has been securing a location to worship, and over the years GTAA has held services in several schools throughout the Bolingbrook area. Most impressive is how this ministry has steadily persevered and prospered in the face of many trials and tribulations during our many years of existence.

In August of 2000, GTAA purchased an eight-acre parcel of land on which to build a worship center, elementary school, food and clothing pantry, and computer-learning center. Plans to break ground were delayed due to challenges in securing adequate funding, however in September 2003, GTAA broke ground and began construction on our new sanctuary which opened for services in March 2006.

Currently, GTAA has several different ministries that serve our congregation and our community, and membership is increasing steadily. Our church is well known for our heartfelt worship, our exuberant praise, and an atmosphere of love.

Glad Tidings Apostolic Assembly Historical Photos

The power of Christian prayer Lord, teach me to listen.
The times are noisy and my ears are weary with the thousand raucous sounds which continuously assault them. Give me the spirit of the boy Samuel when he said to Thee, "Speak, for Thy servant heareth." Let me hear Thee speaking in my heart. Let me get used to the sound of Thy voice, that its tones may be familiar when the sounds of earth die away and the only sound will be the music of Thy speaking. Amen.
