Who we are
We are an Independent Bible Believing Baptist Church, founded on old-fashioned Bible preaching, praying, and praising. We stand on the King James Bible as God's Word without error. Our church services feature practical but convicting preaching, songs from the hymn book and lively worship which includes lifting of hands and vocal AMENS!
Our mission is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to go into all the world and preach the Gospel of Christ.

Dress Code
There is not a dress code at Gloryland Baptist Church for members or guests. Our ministry leaders are asked to dress in modest apparel that would honor the Lord Jesus Christ and represent Him well, both in church and out. Many of our church family dress in a more traditional “Sunday” dress; however, our main goal is that you would feel welcome on your visit here at Gloryland Baptist!

Gloryland Baptist Church History
Geraldine “Granny” Latham was just a simple “God-fearing” woman, watching a TV broadcast of the Billy Graham Crusade one evening in December, 1977. That night she knelt down right there in her living room, acknowledged her sin, and accepted the free gift of salvation by grace through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ. Naturally, her first thought after getting saved was, “I need to get to church.” Since she did not drive, she began to pray for a way to get to church….
A few years after asking the Lord the save him on January 29, 1978, Bro. Charlie had a desire to know God and His Word in a deeper way. He also realized from teaching that he needed to know more about the Bible if he was to teach, so in 1981, he moved his family to Pensacola, Florida to enroll in the Pensacola Bible Institute at Bible Baptist Church where Dr. Peter Ruckman was pastor. The three years at PBI were especially challenging for him, but he knew that a thorough knowledge of the Bible was the necessary preparation for whatever service the Lord had for him. Wages were low and finances were tight as Bro. Charlie worked a full time job in the day and attended classes at night; it seemed the hours of study were endless. Still, he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology in 1984, having satisfactorily completed all the course work, including Greek and Hebrew. At that time, God gave Bro. Charlie a vision of returning to Birmingham, Alabama to begin an old fashioned, God-fearing, sin hating, Bible believing independent Baptist church.
Bro. David Watkins also attended PBI with Bro. Charlie and after much prayer and fasting they agreed to return to Birmingham to labor together in this new work. The first services at Gloryland Baptist Church were held on July 22, 1984, in the living/dining room of Bro. Charlie and Mrs. Myra’s home at 4837 Court S in Central Park. The house was still being repaired after three years of rental. Eighteen believers interested in beginning a KJV independent Baptist church attended that first service, including Granny Latham, Bro. David and the five members of the Andrews family. Within just a couple of services, this tiny congregation outgrew the living/dining room area and moved into the Andrews’ den.
Church services were held in the house for a year until the purchase of the facility on Midway Road in Adamsville. Bro. Charlie and Bro. Frank Schefano had been leading church visitation in a trailer park in Shady Grove and were returning home by way of Midway Road. They could hardly believe their eyes when they saw a ‘FOR SALE’ sign on an old Church of God building just across from the Midway Cemetery. The building seemed to be just the right size and just the right price. It was purchased in July 1985, for $40,000. It seems the Church of God had moved into a new facility and their old facility had only just been listed for sale. There was no doubt in Bro. Charlie’s mind that the Lord had prepared this building for this time and put it along their path that night.
Everyone knew Bro. Charlie was looking for a dedicated facility for Gloryland’s growing congregation. They knew also that the church did not have the $40,000 purchase price. Amazingly, friends and coworkers, saved and unsaved alike, began to give money to help purchase that first building. One man Bro. Charlie worked with had not attended church for some time. Nevertheless, he was faithful to set aside his tithe each week, thinking he would give it when he found a new church to attend. He did not join Gloryland but because he recognized God’s work in Bro. Charlie’s life, he contributed it all toward the down payment for the building. After that last meeting in their home, the congregation held its first service in their new facility on Midway Road in July, 1985.
The Lord was blessing the church and as the church grew so did the work of the ministry. While members were busy with their jobs and families, they were still faithful to attend meetings and get involved in the work. God had sent us men and women with the spiritual gifts needed for conducting Vacation Bible School, Christmas plays, Church visitation, street work, revivals, ladies meetings, prison work, nursing home ministries, mission work, a printing ministry, a sign ministry and Bible study.
As anyone who ever attended the little church on Midway Road could testify, it indeed was a small facility situated on only one-half acre of land. The nursery was quite small and with the ever increasing number of babies being born to church members, it got crowded in a hurry. In like manner the parking area quickly proved too small as well, and our people had to find parking space on the service road through the cemetery across the street. Packed out in the sanctuary and overflowing in the parking lot, Bro. Charlie and the men of the church realized they must begin looking for a larger place to meet. Everyone prayed and inquired about other facilities in the area that might be suitable.
Bro. Charlie was informed of a church building in the Hillview community that was for sale. He and some of the men did a walk-through of the building and liked what they saw. They were sure this was God’s will for our future home and plans were made to purchase it. The facility at 1829 Circlewood Drive in Forestdale soon became the new home of Gloryland Baptist Church. The Lord allowed the Adamsville property to be sold quickly. Everyone was thrilled with the prospect of all the space in the HUGE building, and in awe of the providence of God.
The purchase price for this building and six acres was $150,000. On paper, we could not figure how to afford such a large sum; but we had faith that the Lord would provide. And He did…He started by sending five new families that first year alone and slowly but surely our number has increased.
We continued in our ministries with a new zeal. As time progressed, we took on more missionaries, started new ventures, did more mission work, began a school, a printing and shipping ministry, a bookstore and a Bible Institute.
We want to give our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the praise and the glory for everything and everyone that He has placed in our path along the way. It is by His wonderful, marvelous, matchless grace that He has allowed us to participate in all these wonderful events. Because of this, we at Gloryland Baptist church dedicate our lives and our church to Jesus Christ, “the Author and Finisher of our faith,” without whom none of this would be possible.

God's Promise
Jesus gave His life so that you do not have to carry your burden. He knows this burden hinders you from having eternal life. He knows your sin burden hinders you from living the abundant life that God created you to live. He knows your sin hinders you from experiencing joy and peace that has no bounds and hinders you from receiving all that God has promised and created you to receive.
You just have to ask.
