Who we are
Grace and Good Shepherd are two of 26 mountain mission churches founded at the turn of the 20th century by Archdeacon Frederick Neve to serve the needs of the mountain communities along the Blue Ridge. Today, Grace and Good Shepherd comprise one congregation that alternates use of these beautiful and historic stone churches. We continue to serve the surrounding community of North Garden and Charlottesville through worship, service, prayer and outreach.
Our services follow the 1979 Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church. Music includes selections from the 1982 Hymnal and Lift Every Voice and Sing II: An African-American Hymnal. The tone is both reverent and relaxed.

The Reverend Neal Halvorsen-Taylor was called to lead our parish during the past summer. Neal is originally from Alexandria, Minnesota and brings his wife, Martiene and children Juliet, Frey and Hemming to share in his ministry at McIlhany. His leadership is grounded in his knowledge of, and love for, scripture and the natural world. Our prayers and praise often reflect on the beauty and bountiful life found in Central Virginia.

I want to know Thee
Father, I want to know Thee, but my coward heart fears to give up its toys. I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from Thee the terror of the parting. I come trembling, but I do come. Please root from my heart all those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my living self, so that Thou mayest enter and dwell there without a rival. Then shalt Thou make the place of Thy feet glorious. Then shall my heart have no need of the sun to shine in it, for Thyself wilt be the light of it, and there shall be no night there. In Jesus Name, Amen.
