Who we are
Grace Church is a parish of the Diocese of Niagara, one of 29 dioceses (geographical areas) which comprise the Anglican Church of Canada. The Anglican Church of Canada is part of the world-wide Anglican Communion. Anglicans around the world are descended from their “Mother Church”, the Church of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the spiritual leader, but serves as a “first among equals”, sharing his ministry with bishops around the world.
As Anglican Christians we celebrate the Mystery of God in Word and Sacrament. We are inheritors of the Catholic and Reformed traditions of the Western Church. We believe that God the Father has revealed himself in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity reveals himself in the life of the Church in the following ways:
The Historic Faith of the early and undivided Church as expressed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, as recited in the public Liturgy of the Church. The Holy Scriptures are the foundational source of our corporate and individual identity, perspective and vision. The Revised Common Lectionary provides a systematic means whereby nearly the whole Bible is read publically in the Liturgy over a three-year cycle. The Seven Sacraments are means of grace established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles to be administered by His Church.
The Liturgical Tradition of Common Prayer wherein the laity fully participate in public worship. The authorized book used in this parish is The Book of Alternative Services (Canada 1985), supplemented by material from The Book of Common Prayer and other authorized liturgical resources.
Preaching provides an exposition of the Bible and the teaching of the Church, relating to our contemporary situation. An archive of recordings of sermons recently given at Grace may be found here.
We believe that through these gifts God transforms our lives and equips us to serve the wider community.
