Leader Bio:
My Christian life began at the age of 22 when God graciously called me from agnosticism to faith in Jesus Christ. In his providence, I came to faith just before moving to Japan to teach English there for one year. That was 1993. While there, I was baptized by an American missionary.
After moving back to the States in 1994, I lived for two and a half years in Missoula, Montana. There I united with a local Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) and under the patient and loving guidance of the pastor, Rev. Ron McKenzie, I grew in my faith and in my understanding of Reformed theology.
In 1997 I returned to Japan, this time as a Missionary Associate with OPC. While there I met my wife, Robyn, and we married in 2000. God has blessed us with five children.
I graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in 2003, served an OPC church in Norman, Oklahoma, for three and a half years, and have served as the pastor Grace OPC in Wasilla since 2007.
Robyn and I have enjoyed living in Alaska (and learning how to catch – and prepare – salmon!). My interests include reading, running, driving the kids places, and following the St. Louis Cardinals and Seattle Mariners (in that order!).
I look forward to meeting you when you visit Grace!

Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church History
Grace OPC’s origins trace back to 1984, when several families joined together to pursue the establishment of a Reformed church in the Mat-Su Valley. Since then, some of the core families have moved out of state, but three of them are still an active part of the congregation.
In 1987 the congregation formally affiliated with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). Today, Grace is a member of the OPC, and part of the regional church under the Presbytery of the Northwest.
Over the years, Grace has been served by several pastors and interim ministers, each of whom made unique contributions to the life and growth of the church. Since 2007, Rev. Scott Johnson has served as the pastor of the congregation.
For a long time, the church had no building and so met in various places, including homes and commercial spaces. In 2005, however, the church was blessed with a newly-constructed building of its own. Not only has the building provided a permanent place for worship and meetings, but it has helped establish the congregation’s place in the wider community.
The history of Grace OPC is just one small part of the far greater story of God’s work in building Christ’s Kingdom on earth. Lord willing, Grace OPC, in her worship and service, will remain true to the “faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3), and will be used by God as a witness to our community both of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and of the riches of the Reformed faith.

The way, the truth, and the life
Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books. It costs too much to be hoarded. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right.
