Who we are
Grand Avenue Christian Church (DoC) is a covenant member in affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. The Christian Church (DoC) grew out of two movements seeking Christian unity in the early 1800's in America. Our founders, Alexander and Thomas Campbell and Barton Warren Stone, hoped to restore Christian unity by returning to the New Testament faith and practices. However, even among these high aspirations division among the church occured, The Stone-Campbell movement is primarily comprised of three main churches. The Churches of Christ, Christian Churches/Churches of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Although separated all three still hold to the foundational belief of Christian Unity.
Today, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has 3,754 congregations throughout the United States and Canada. There are approximately 691,160 members in these congregations with about 3,399 clergy serving in a congregation. There are another 3972 clergy serving in other areas of the church life.
As a part of the Chruch organizational structure GACC is also a covenant member in affiliation with the Christian Church (DoC) in Montana. This is what is referred to as the Region. Commonly known as The Region of Montana.
Our Mission Statement
Our Response to Christ is to be a community which places high value on worship, human relationships, and the wholeness of each person. We will strive to be open to all and welcome all persons so that together we may experience love, patience, forgiveness, and God's empowering Grace.

OUR HISTORY
Before Montana become a state on November 8, 1889, GACC was an active congregation. It all began with a meeting held by M.L. Streator on Sunday, June 26, 1887. Thirty four persons signed a covenant of support. Mr. Streator devoted one year to the establishment of the church. The formal organization of the church took place on Feb. 5, 1889, a few weeks later three lots had been purchased on the corner of Grand and Babcock. The initial brick building became possible from a gift donated by Miss Lou Payne a member of the Missouri Christian Missionary Society, in honor of her father. This building served the congregation until 1928.
As the congregation grew, so did their building needs. Remodeling of the building to it's present status began with a building fund in 1920. The extensive remodeling effort, including a new education wing, was dedicated on Feb. 22, 1942. Further renovations were made in 1980-81. The parking lot was developed in 1991 where the former parsonage used to stand.
There are several stained glass windows in the sanctuary that have been dedicated in memory of loved ones. A new baptistry was dedicated in March of 2000. With this new change came other changes to the building. A new changing area and shower were installed. A brand new back-lighted wooden cross was hung in the baptistry area. This was a significant remodeling effort taken on by the congregation and its completion is in great part due to the generous support and labor of many in the congregation.

"Yes, Lord"
"Yes, Lord! Jesus, I give all of this to you. Jesus," I just started out a dream for my neighbourhood. "I didn't ask you to make me a messenger to the world. I just wanted to love my neighbours. But Jesus, here it is. Here's my future, here's my loneliness, here are all the pressures, here are the criticism", and I gave Him everything. And I told Him to take me again and I would try to make "Yes, Lord" the continuing motto of my life..
