Who we are
Who We Are
We are a church with a world vision whose purpose is to stand for Biblical truth. We are a church with a vision and a burden for loving the lost and helping the hurting. We desire to share a message of love, mercy and forgiveness to a lonely world. We believe that through a relationship with Jesus Christ we are healed, redeemed, renewed, forgiven, loved and transformed. It is our passion to share this message to a world without hope. Jesus Christ did not make this an exclusive gospel but an inclusive gospel – “whosoever will, let him come”. And we as a church say come, come without being criticized or condemned but called to a higher purpose and commitment to our savior Jesus Christ.
What We Believe
“Harvest Ministries is a church striving to become a 21st century New Testament Church.
We are founded upon the belief that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. While written by mere men, it was authored by God himself.” It is the supreme source of truth for Christians who desire to live an overcoming life. (2 Peter 1:20-21)
We believe in the great commission and are endeavoring to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with love, mercy and compassion.
(Matthew 28:16:20)
We believe: there is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4) He is the creator of heaven and earth, and of all living beings. He has revealed Himself to humanity as the Father (Creator), as the Son (Savior) and as the Holy Ghost (indwelling Spirit).
We believe that forgiveness of sins is obtained by genuine repentance, a confessing and forsaking of sins. (Acts 2:38; Luke 13:3; Luke 24:47)
We believe in water baptism by immersion in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. Through baptism we identify with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6: 3-6; Colossians 2:11-14; Acts 2:38)
We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in other tongues. (Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44-46; Acts 19:1-6)
We believe in the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He ministers to his people through tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy; words of knowledge and wisdom, discerning of spirits, faith, working of miracles, healing helps and government. (Mark 16:15-18; Acts 5:16; 2Corinthians 12: 1-11)
We believe in eternity. People were created to live forever.
We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation.
We believe that Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence
(Revelation 20 & 21)

Harvest Ministries UPC History
Springfield, MO is the third largest city in Missouri with over 166,000 people. The Springfield-Branson metropolitan area has a population of 542,000. Springfield’s nickname is the “Queen City of the Ozarks” and is known as the birthplace of Route 66.
Springfield has been blessed to have a United Pentecostal Church as a positive part of city history since 1955.
Harvest Ministries has called many places home over the years beginning with the home of founding Pastor, Eugene McCarthy, at 1458 East North street. Between the years of 1956 and 1959, several facilities served as home for Harvest. In 1956, a small storefront building with no restroom facility was used. Sometime later, a larger thirty-by-forty foot concrete building at Scenic and Loren, which also had no restroom, became home to the growing congregation.
After purchasing the First Methodist Church at Missouri and Madison in 1959, a baptistery was added, which eliminated the need for conducting baptismal services on the banks of the Sac River or in the James River near the bridge on South Highway 60, which is now Lake Springfield. The new baptistery was especially appreciated during cold winter months since ice sometimes had to be broken to accommodate a baptismal service in the river.
After the untimely death of Rev. McCarthy, Rev. L. D. Fletcher became Pastor in 1975.
In 1978, First United Pentecostal Church moved to 2516 West Mill Street. Rev. Larry Eddings joined the ministerial team in 1978, serving as Assistant to the Pastor and as Youth Pastor until 1981. The year of 1981 again brought more changes for First United Pentecostal Church. To accommodate the church’s forward moving ministries and continued growth, the church moved to 901 North Prospect.
In November 1981, Rev. Fletcher resigned as Pastor. Rev. Larry Eddings accepted the pastorate on December 1st of 1981. Rev. Eddings brought with him a dream and a vision for the growth and development of First United Pentecostal Church. As part of this plan, First United Pentecostal Church became known as Harvest Ministries.
In 1982 the sanctuary at 901 North Prospect was remodeled to better accommodate various church needs. A baptistery, dressing room space, sound/technician room, nursery and Pastor’s office were added. Men’s and ladies’ restrooms with multiple facilities, a larger foyer and extra classrooms were also added.
In 1995, adjoining properties were purchased, which helped to ease overcrowding in Sunday School classes as well as to provide space for other needs. In January 1997, Harvest retired all of its mortgages and celebrated its debt-free status with a mortgage shredding ceremony.
In 2004, Harvest purchased its current home in Springfield. The campus at 3114 East Sunset Avenue, sits on 4.5 acres, and the building consists of
22,500 sq. Ft. with 18 classrooms, a 3,000 sq. Ft. fellowship hall and a sanctuary that seats 275.
In September 2013, Rev. Ken James was elected as Pastor and Pastor L.D. Eddings was elected as Bishop. Rev. James worked alongside Bishop Eddings to pursue Harvest’s vision of reaching our city for Christ. In September 2014, Rev. James resigned as pastor and Bishop Eddings again assumed the Pastoral duties.
On June 15th of 2015, Rev. Brian McCoy accepted the pastorate of Harvest Ministries. Pastor McCoy, his wife Denise, and their four lovely children relocated to Springfield from Texas. Pastor McCoy had served the Texas District United Pentecostal Church as Youth President for 5 years as well as pastoring a church there for 10 years. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1998 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, after which he attended Texas Bible College. They also evangelized for 7 years.
Pastor and Mrs. McCoy brought to Harvest Ministries a passionate burden for revival and a harvest of souls. His singing and anointed ministry have matched with the spirit of Harvest and a great mutual love is evident.
Harvest celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2015. This celebration allowed the church to rejoice as they walked down the historical paths from their humble beginning to the place of current blessings. It was a nostalgic time for the elders and a time of informative enlightenment for the rest of the church.
Pastor McCoy and Bishop Eddings are working together to put the MISSION IN MOTION and lead Harvest Ministries into her God-given Divine Apostolic Destiny.

Abide in my heart
Come, Lord Jesus, and abide in my heart. How grateful I am to realize that the answer to my prayer does not depend on me at all. As I quietly abide in You and let Your life flow into me, what freedom it is to know that the Father does not see my threadbare patience or insufficient trust, rather only Your patience, Lord, and Your confidence that the Father has everything in hand. In Your faith I thank You right now for a more glorious answer to my prayer than I can imagine. Amen.
