Who we are
Begin Here ... All are Welcome!
Holy Cross worship is an Episcopal, contemporary, and biblically-based experience using styles that glorify God and are relevant to the interests of the Sugar Land community. You will find our Rector, Scott Thompson, to be uplifting, dynamic, engaging, and spirit-filled with a powerful message that will make a real impact on your life.
Podcasts of past sermons from Scott are available on this website. Our music appeals to every age as our Music ministry plays today's music, drawing from all of the great praise songs and contemporary Christian artists of today. To make the worship experience easier and more enjoyable for visitors and members alike, prayers and responses as well as lyrics for the music are projected on two large screens, an experience you will come to love.
Our extensive and dynamic youth education programs range from an experienced and competent nursery at every service and King's Kids Church for K-5th all the way through our Youth Group for teens. Holy Cross has a staff of a Rector, Worship and Music Director, Christian Education Director, Office Manager and Youth Director to ensure our worship and programs fulfill our mission and the needs of the congregation. Visit us any Sunday in Sugar Land at the entrance to Riverpark on the Grand Parkway. All are welcome! Other important things to know... Communion
All baptized Christians are welcome to receive communion in the Episcopal Church. If you have not yet been baptized but would like to receive a blessing, simply join the others at the time of communion placing your hands over your chest in the shape of an “X.” This will indicate to the Rector that you are desiring a blessing rather than communion and he will bless you with the sign of the cross and in God’s name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Holy Cross Loves Kids!
We have a modern playground for your kids with a special play unit for younger kids and one for the older kids. The playground meets all safety guidelines of the State of Texas and is of park-like quality and construction. Come to a worship service and then sit down with a cup of coffee or a glass of lemonade on one of our new park benches and watch your kids have a blast after church! Warning: your children will be dragging you to church!
Newborn through Pre-School
We offer a nursery and play area where experienced and caring adults will ensure a safe and fun environment for your little ones. If you prefer to keep them with you in the service, please be mindful of those around you if they become fussy. The service can be easily heard in the Gathering Space for your comfort and convenience as well. King's Kids (K-5th)
We offer a very exciting multimedia kid's Christian education program for grades K-5 at 10:00 am each week. Children at Holy Cross love King's Kid's Church! Children are taught a special lesson in the Education Wing in a fun, interesting, and age-appropriate manner. They are brought into the Sanctuary to join their parents just prior to communion.
Youth Group (grades 6-12)
Youth Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. for conversation, fellowship, and a Bible lesson in the 100 Suite. All Youth then join the adults in the Sanctuary just prior to communion.

Leader Bio:
Holy Cross called Scott Thompson to lead the congregation as Rector in late 2007. Scott was previously rector of New Life Episcopal Church in Mosinee, Wisconsin. He is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. His first love was music and he had a desire to play the drums as a professional musician in a rock band. He became focused on full-time ministry in his mid-teens. Scott received his BA in Biblical Studies from Grace School of Theology in 1986, and a master of theology from the Dallas Theological Seminary in 1991. He received a certificate in Anglican studies from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in 1999.
Scott and his family live in the Sugar Land area. He enjoys spending time with his family, singing, playing the guitar and drums, reading, running, weightlifting, and riding his motorcycle. His passion is the local church and seeing lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lord, teach me to listen.
The times are noisy and my ears are weary with the thousand raucous sounds which continuously assault them. Give me the spirit of the boy Samuel when he said to Thee, "Speak, for Thy servant heareth." Let me hear Thee speaking in my heart. Let me get used to the sound of Thy voice, that its tones may be familiar when the sounds of earth die away and the only sound will be the music of Thy speaking. Amen.
