Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church History
The community of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Gillette, Wyoming, is a dynamic one, with many parishioners from a variety of backgrounds. Many of these pilgrims to Orthodoxy came from a Protestant church called the Open Bible Praise Fellowship. In 1993 their pastor, Rev. John Atchison, began searching for the Church as described in the New Testament. Through study and meeting with Orthodox priests throughout Colorado and Wyoming, he found a home in the Orthodox Church: he and about 25 of his parishioners entered the Orthodox faith. Following his ordination to the priesthood in June 1995, Fr. John served the congregation until he was transferred to St. Nicholas Orthodox Mission in Springdale, Arkansas.
After Fr. John's departure in 2001, Fr. Michael Keiser took over the pastorate of Holy Resurrection. He was also instrumental in establishing St. John the Theologian Orthodox Mission in Rapid City, South Dakota.
In 2003 Fr. James Thayer was appointed to serve Holy Resurrection, and he ministered to the community for nine years before his transfer to Pennsylvania.
In 2012 Fr. Michael Fulton, a recent graduate of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, was appointed as the community's pastor until October 1, 2015 when Father Michael was transferred to Louisiana.
