Who we are
Immanuel Lutheran Church is a small congregation of just over 200 souls. We’ve been in this same rural location since 1890. Many of our members have family that date back to the origins of this congregation. Although we have been through many changes over the past 125+ years, one thing that has never changed is What We Believe.
Immanuel is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Described as theologically conservative, WELS is the third largest Lutheran church body in the United States with about 390,000 members and 1,300 congregations located in all 50 states and Canada as well as many countries throughout the world. Its headquarters is in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
The mission statement of WELS declares: “As men, women and children united in faith and worship by the word of God, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod exists to make disciples throughout the world for time and for eternity, using the Gospel in Word and Sacrament to win the lost for Christ and to nurture believers for lives of Christian service, all to the glory of God.”
Being “Lutheran”, Immanuel accepts and preaches the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in the phrases: Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Scripture Alone.
Grace Alone – God sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
Faith Alone – God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
Scripture Alone – The Bible is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
