Who we are
Welcome to Keel Avenue Baptist Church “The Avenue”!
What an incredible opportunity to reach you via the World Wide Web. Several years ago, it would have been inconceivable that technology would have advanced as it has, but communication and the ways people interact with each other have come full circle.
Many of us live in virtual cyberspace. The way we communicate via email, text, Skype, and face book just to name a few, is invigorating. Technology has just placed everything at our fingertips. Technology has given us, here at “The Avenue,” the immense opportunity to reach more people than we ever imagined and in just a few seconds.
Most people today use a computer to communicate, shop, play games, etc. Studies have shown that many people looking for a church home, or a church to visit, do it via the web, before ever stepping foot in the actual building. We want our website to be your window into “The Avenue” and are excited about the opportunity this site affords us.
If you are part of "The Avenue," take the opportunity to tour our site and encourage others to visit. If you are a first time visitor, please take time to tour our site. But don't stop there; we would love to have you come and worship with us! The excited, loving and friendly people of "The Avenue" will be waiting to welcome you.
It is my deepest desire that something on the site will spur a desire in you for a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. We seek to get “Connected, Committed and Conformed to the Image of Christ.”
We long to provide an avenue that will enlighten, encourage, and elevate you in your life through Christ.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Blessings,
Pastor

Keel Avenue Baptist Church History
Keel Avenue Missionary Baptist Church History
1915 - 2012
In 1915, a group of devoted Christians decided to organize a place of worship for those living in the Klondike Community. Keel Avenue Missionary Baptist Church held its first religious services in a little two room house at 1193 Keel Avenue. From 1916 to 1921, this small church grew and its leaders were prompted to consider a larger edifice for worship. Eventually a new building was constructed at 811 N. Bellevue. After a fire in 1923, a new building was erected in 1925 on a tract of land donated to the church at the corner of Grant and Bellevue.
From 1916 to 1928, Keel was blessed with Rev. C. Thomas, Rev. Maxwell, Rev. Davis, Rev, Mabon and Rev. Hammond, each serving as pastors. After Rev. Hammond’s death, Rev. J. F. Collins was called to be the under shepherd.
In 1944, the church purchased property at 778 N. Bellevue and it took six years of hard work and dedication for their vision to became a reality. Led by Pastor Collins, they moved into the building in 1950. ‘Old Keel still stands as a reminder of how far the Lord has brought us - from a one story building with wooden floors, a potbelly stove and no air-conditioning. “Old Keel” also reminds us that we worship a true and living God who will always hear and answer the prayers of the righteous. Rev. Collins served as pastor for 30 years and in December, 1958, Rev. Perdy Moody was elected to lead the flock. An education complex was erected in 1971 and our youth outreach ministry was enhanced under his leadership. Our present dynamic preacher/teacher, Pastor Robert C. Jones, Jr., has been our overseer for eighteen years. We have grown in the Word under his pastorate.
As we continue to make changes that will allow us to be conformed to the image of Christ, Keel will continue to evolve into an even greater place of worship.
