Knox Presbyterian Church History
The history of Knox Church has its roots in the histories of Free St. John's and St. Paul's Church of Scotland.
A few settlers moved in in 1849 with many more following in 1850. It was soon decided that a Church should be built and on July 5, 1851 a group gathered with the intention of building a Church. Repre-sentatives were from the Christian Church, Church of England, Meth-odists, Congregationalists and Presbyterians.
Land was purchased, and a building 20 feet by 26 feet was started with the location being on the south side of the road to Hanover. This would be opposite what we know as The Walkerton-Hanover Vet. Clinic.
The first moderator was Rev. R. Torrance and the first Communion Service was on Decemkter 21, 1851. Services were held only when a minister became available due to the fact that monies were not avail-able to pay him. The first minister in the name of Rev. Robert C. Mof-fat was inducted on October 15, 1857. The first Kirk Session meeting was held April 7, 1859. In 1860 it was agreed that services be moved from the original "Durham Line " to a new frame church on what was known as Church Street now changed to Willow Street. Not much info is available on this church. On May 24, 1875 the foundation stone was laid by Mr. John Bruce. This is now the site of Knox Church that we know today.
Over the years many committee's have been formed inside our Church. We have Kirk Session, Worship Committee, Board of Man-agers, Women's Missionary Society, Service Club, Sunday School. Out of these committees come a wide array of other things. We have Friendship Prayer, Bible Study(both men and women), Choir. All of these committees are looked after by so many dedicated members of Knox and we thank them so much. May God Bless each of you.
This is a brief history of our Knox Presbyterian Church taken from the history book written by The Rev. Fred Neill and we thank him very much for his time and effort.

With us night and morning
By gracious powers so wonderfully sheltered, and confidently waiting come what may, we know that God is with us night and morning, and never fails to greet us each new day. Yet is this heart by its old foe tormented, still evil days bring burdens hard to bear; Oh, give our frightened souls the sure salvation for which, O Lord, You taught us to prepare. And when this cup You give is filled to brimming with bitter suffering, hard to understand, we take it thankfully and without trembling, out of so good and so beloved a hand. Yet when again in this same world You give us the joy we had, the brightness of Your Sun, we shall remember all the days we lived through, and our whole life shall then be Yours alone.
