Who we are
Our Open Door Vision:
“Our Vision is to be a church with an Open Door for all people to come in and for us to reach out, responding to the needs of the community and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.”
An Honourable Past Lymington Presbyterian Church was founded in 1672 when Robert Tutchin took out a license as a Presbyterian teacher to preach under the declaration of indulgence. The congregation outgrew the original building and in 1842 they had a radical vision for a new Church building, parsonage and school rooms offering free education to all. In March 1847 the congregation having raised £4500 saw work commence on the current building as was, this was completed and opened for worship as Lymington Congregational Church on October 28th 1847. In 1972 the Church agreed to join the United Reformed Church which was a Union of the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches in England and Wales.
How did our Open Door begin? Back in 1998 our congregation led by Rev’d Jane Weedon felt God calling us to make the most of our prime position in the middle of Lymington High Street and open its doors to the needs of our local community. From there began a huge journey of faith and exploration of talents as the fellowship embarked on a fund raising project to raise over £500,000, the Wessex Synod generously agreed to match fund the project to this limit. This gave the Church the momentum to work tirelessly over the next 11 years to achieve its vision to be the church with an “Open Door” for the community of Lymington.
Now is the time….This is the moment
Now we are delighted to welcome you to our modern refurbished Sanctuary with soft chairs, new heating, lighting and a full multimedia system. Our £1.1 million pound face lift allowed us to demolish our old hall and rebuild it with 21st century facilities and accessibility.
But the real triumph is the “Open Door” the main Sanctuary entrance all rebuilt in glass and re-positioned centrally enabling us to literally reach out to the community and the world outside can see in…..

My hidden sins
Here they are, Lord Jesus, my hidden sins. I bring them out of the secret chamber of my heart. I take them out of the darkness and expose them to Your light. Lord, You have promised You will execute Your word upon the earth, thoroughly and quickly. Oh God, thoroughly cleanse my heart; purify me quickly!
