Who we are

We are a two-point pastoral charge consisting of St. James & St. John United and Maple Glen United Churches. At St. James & St. John United, the approximate number of families is 260 and the average weekly church attendance is 150. Maple Glen United approximates 15 families in total and weekly attendance of 20. Church services are held at 9:00 a.m. at Maple Glen United and 11:00 a.m. at St. James & St. John United. In July and August there are no worship services in Maple Glen.

Like so many churches today, the pastoral charge is a “greying” congregation consisting of many retired people and average age of well over fifty. There are many young families who are currently not attending church or participating in activities. This concern will be addressed with the Strategic Planning Team (Long Range Planning).

Leader Bio:
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

This bible passage expresses the essence of my faith and life. No denomination will identify who or what I am but the living Christ who lives and works through me. Whenever God calls me I obediently accept my place in a new mission field where people need to know the Truth and the Message of God. That is who I strive to be vocationally and theologically.

In terms of relationships I am the daughter of parents who were teachers that worked in an orphanage; my older brother and I we were born and raised in Hungary during communism.
Together with Géza, my husband of over 25 years, we have 3 adult children; Dániel, Dóra and Benjámin. Géza and I met at seminary and continue to experience a wonderful, challenging journey through life. We moved to Canada in 2004 at the invitation of the United Church of Canada, having lived and served God for 12 years in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Moving to Miramichi in 2016 was a big change in our lives but we are thankful to God who has led us into such a nice community of people who are more than interested in God’s Word and Way.

Education:
Master of Divinity, Károli Gáspár University, Budapest, Hungary 1984-1990
Counseling Training, Grace Ministries International, Budapest, Hungary 2000-2002
Applied Counseling Certificate, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg 2010-2012
I was ordained in Hungary in 1993 in the Reformed (Presbyterian) Church in Hungary.

Hobbies and Interests:
I enjoy reading and writing, gardening, knitting, listening to music, hanging out with our adult children, having good conversation and tea with friends, running, and going for long walks.
Other significant interests to me are contemplative spiritual practices of prayer, writing Daily Devotion, Scripture reading, silence and solitude.   Edit

Maple Glen United Church History

The first Protestant Church to serve the Miramichi area was St. James, a Secessionist Church, built in 1790 at Wilson’s Point, now known as The Enclosure. As early as 1822, it was decided to relocate the church to the present location under the auspices of the Church of Scotland. Construction at the new site began in the spring of 1825, with a corner stone laid by Lieutenant Governor Sir Howard Douglas. Kirk HallFormer Kirk hall. St. James and St. John in background.

Built by master builder William Murray in the Grecian architectural style, the church was still under construction when the Great Miramichi Fire swept through the area on October 7th and 8th, 1825. Destroyed by the fire, the church was rebuilt on the same site and completed in 1829-1830. Much of the old stone foundation was used in the reconstruction, as were many of the foundation sills. New sills to replace those that did not survive the fire were constructed with lumber harvested from the scorched remains of local forests. These sills have burn marks that are still visible today, a reminder of the devastation wrought by the great fire.

In 1926, with the formation of the United Church of Canada, St. John’s Methodist Church joined St. James’ Presbyterian Church to become the present St. James & St. John United Church.
