Maplewood Grace United Methodist Church History
The Methodist class here was organized in 1870, and the community was known first as Forest Hills and then Forest Chapel before it became known as Maplewood. The church building was begun in 1871 and dedicated in 1874. The congregation was known as the “Maplewood” Church. In 1970 the congregation received the members of the former Maplewood Grace EUB church and became known as “Grace.” The wing to the left of the town was added following that congregational meger.
In 2016, Maplewood Grace UMC and Hollisterville UMC merged into Hamlin Centenary to form Salem Community UMC.
