Who we are
A small church with a big heart
Temporarily located in downtown Eustace, our church is one that is open to all people. We are a compassionate congregation, full of the grace of God, and are focused on sharing that grace with our community. We are using the building formerly known as Eustace UMC until we construct a new campus with room for our growing congregation. We hope you and your family will join us! When we say all are welcome we genuinely believe it!

Greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ! My name is Wayne Walters. I am honored to serve as the next pastor of Market Street United Methodist Church. My family and I are excited about moving to Mabank, sharing ministry with each of you and making connections that glorify God and exemplify the love of Christ.
I am married to Kristy and together we have 4 beautiful children. We have shared much joy in our 12-year marriage, but our friendship extends far beyond that. Our children are Ava (10), Aydan (9), Amalie (6), and Aliza (2). They are our pride and joy and bring so much excitement to life. We are blessed beyond deserving.
I graduated from Anna High School in 1999. I received my undergraduate degree from The University of North Texas in 2007 with Bachelors of English with a concentration in History. I began a career in teaching and began to realize that the call on my heart to enter full time ministry was no longer something I could ignore. I chose to say yes to God and answered the call to ministry. I left the classroom and began to work toward ordination in the United Methodist Church, which I dearly love. I also graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth with a Masters of Divinity from the Brite School of Theology. I spent many of my college years working in the service industry. I believe God uses that experience in many ways within my ministry.
I grew up at Anna UMC. I served at Anna UMC as a high school volunteer in 1999. When I returned from college I served as youth director for 3 years. I served First UMC The Colony until I was called back to Anna UMC as director of Children and Family ministries. It was at Anna UMC where I planted a preschool, reinvigorated the youth and children, and brought the small local church to the people who needed it most. We spent much of our time in the community through holiday events, chamber of commerce activities and school sponsored activities. In 2019 I was appointed to First UMC Trenton and brought much of my experience with me. First UMC Trenton is well known in the community for leading with their hearts and serving with grace. If there is a need in the community First UMC Trenton strives to provide.
I describe my leadership style as collaborative, responsible, and communicative. I think these are traits that help me see all the ways that we can “Make Disciples for Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.” I love sharing the Gospel with whoever will listen, showing the love of Christ to all who will see, and seeking out those that need to know the love of Christ and sharing it with them. As you can tell, I want the church, the body of Christ, to be recognizable, relevant, and faithful.
In our free time we are usually busy doing something for the kids. We love to travel, see new places and experience new things. We love to ride horses, hike, and spend time outdoors. We are leaving our 3 horses in the care of family on our farm in North Texas. We will get back to ride every few months.
We are excited to serve alongside you as the body of Christ in Mabank and surrounding areas.
Grace and Peace,
Reverend Wayne Walters

Market Street United Methodist Church History
It was December 4, 2022, and the United Methodist Church in the Mabank and Athens communities were in trouble. After months of disunity, acrimony, and heated debate over disaffiliation and the inclusion of all persons to be welcomed in church, the remnant of the United Methodists in Henderson and Kaufman counties finally found refuge. In 2022, many faithful Methodists gathered at a music studio known as Music Play Love on Market Street in downtown Mabank, Texas. On that day, the fractured, hurting, broken community gathered for worship. They gathered for prayer and praise. They met to hear the Word. They assembled to share the hurt and pain for the loss of their churches. They came together and something happened. It was not a feeling that could be described or explained. If you asked one of those present about it, they would say: “I don’t really know what happened, but something did.”
The something that happened was that the Holy Spirit moved among them. The feeling that happened was that Jesus and his love became a reality. The something that happened was that they were touched by God. When this happens, you cannot describe it or explain it. But you know that it happens because from then on, things are different.
Over the next month, the small fellowship outgrew the music studio and then the Tri-County Library also located on Market Street. They welcomed people of many different religious, or denominational, backgrounds but united in their steadfast view that all persons are of sacred worth in the eyes of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
After a time of intense study of the Scriptures and devoted prayer, the new community of Christians began to refer to their fellowship as Market Street Chapel in remembrance of the Holy Spirit working among those attending that evening. Thus, December 4, 2022 celebrates a day of Pentecost for Market Street United Methodist Church. Though we no longer meet on that street in the heart of Mabank we trace our new beginning to this renewal and rebirth.

God's Promise
Jesus gave His life so that you do not have to carry your burden. He knows this burden hinders you from having eternal life. He knows your sin burden hinders you from living the abundant life that God created you to live. He knows your sin hinders you from experiencing joy and peace that has no bounds and hinders you from receiving all that God has promised and created you to receive.
You just have to ask.
