McKenzie United Church History
McKenzie United Church has existed as a mission in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba since 1925. It was established as a Presbyterian Sunday School c. 1898 by Mr. Angus Grant in a private home in the west end of Portage la Prairie. After Mr. Grant's departure, the Sunday School relocated to 12th Street NW. The Sunday School was once again relocated to the corner of Lorne Avenue and 11th Street West in 1903 when the Sunday School became known as the McKenzie Mission. In 1957, the mission was organized as a Pastoral Charge and permission was granted from the Portage la Prairie Presbytery to construct a church building. The church was to be built in three stages. The Dedication Service for the completed basement was held on May 7, 1958 and was conducted by Rev. H.I. Bowman. Services were held in the basement until the Sanctuary was built in 1962. A Manse was purchased and finished in 1967. Part of the McKenzie Mission building was given to the Fort La Reine Museum in 1977. McKenzie United Church is located at #83 - 11th Street NW in Portage la Prairie.

Accept, O Lord, my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my will. All that I am and have thou hast given to me; and I give all back to thee to be disposed of according to they good pleasure. Give me only the comfort of thy presence and the joy of thy love; with thee I shall be more than rich and shall desire nothing more.
