Who we are
Montreal was founded in 1642, with a desire that it become a city that would shine in righteousness. A cross was planted on Mont Royal, highly visible from many areas of the city, and its modern version still stands as a reminder of what this city is meant to be - a city under God. GCI Canada (formerly Worldwide Church of God) was planted in this city over 35 years ago, and wants to contribute toward Montreal's being a city under God. In July 1999, Dennis and Lynn Lawrence, and family moved here, and entered into the rich pastoral history of this congregation over its nearly four decades of life.
This congregation is dynamic. Members are actively involved in serving each other and others, too. The congregation has active Children's and Youth Ministries, prayer ministries, men's ministry, and worship ministry. The congregation is growing in many ways. We have a sizable group of children and youth and are attempting to provide a truly uplifting worship environment that will enable them to connect with God. In 2009, Rob Brockman's addition to the pastoral staff, as an intern recently graduated from Tyndale University, will assist in that development. Our worship service is quite 'upbeat', using a lot of contemporary worship music, along with older worship songs, sometimes redone to be more relevant in this new century.
Our congregation has quite a heart for supporting mission. Several of our youth and adults have participated in overseas mission trips. We look to understand how these experiences can contribute to our serving Montreal as a city under God! We support a young man in Rwanda through Compassion Canada, as well as Botshabelo, an AIDS orphanage in South Africa. Our members participate regularly in serving at the Old Brewery Mission, annually in the Standard Life Marathon, Operation Christmas Child, and the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Individually, the agencies served are significantly greater than these. One strong commitment of the congregation is to the youth camp, Camp Connections, in which most youth participate each year.
Come visit our website; you'll see that a lot of good is happening here. Perhaps you'd like to visit us for church; perhaps, we are your future church home.
