Who we are
Our Mission Statement:
“Reach out, share God’s love, grow in faith and make a difference.”
Our Vision Statement:
“To be a vibrant community empowered with Godly purpose.”
Our Values
Truth, Hope, Compassion and Integrity
At New Horizons Church we believe:
That the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our every day lives.
In one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
That sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.
That the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life.
That in order to receive forgiveness and the “new birth” we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.
That in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptised in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts.
That God has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives which is to worship God, fulfill our role in the Church and serve the community in which we live.
That God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and prosperous lives in order to help others more effectively.
That our eternal destination of either Heaven or Hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.
That the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.

Leader Bio:
Making a decision for Christ at the age of 20 was indeed a life-changing experience for Rohan. No more hiding in the shadows awaiting human purpose, Rohan was now assured of God’s love and free to be who God had created him to be. His faith prompted him to learn more each day from the Bible and eventually led him to complete theological studies.
Since becoming a Christian he’s worked with children, youth and young adults for the past 27 years in either voluntary or paid positions at several churches, and as a primary and secondary school chaplain. To supplement his church ministry he has worked in architecture, engineering and currently runs a small property maintenance company.
Other than God, his greatest support and best friend is his wife, Liz, and they have two amazing teenager children. Both Liz and Rohan have a passion to train and equip leaders for ministry, to positively influence young people’s lives and see them develop a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

New Horizons Church History
New Horizons Church was started in 1990 by Pastors Allan and Jennie Herman alongside a faithful team of people. In those days the church was known as Whittlesea Assembly of God. We used the very same building we are using now, however, back then access was limited to Sundays. People arrived early to roll out carpet, set up chairs, sound system etc. We are now the main leaseholders on the building and utilise it for many events, programs and office space throughout the week.
In 1995 Pastor Shane and Millie took on the roles of senior pastors. Under their leadership, the church flourished, from a congregation of 12 to a congregation of 100+ meeting every Sunday.
In February 2009, Whittlesea, Kinglake and the surrounding suburbs experienced one of the most horrific natural bushfire disasters our nation has seen, Black Saturday. New Horizons Church, along with the other local churches pulled together to reach our community with the hope and love of Jesus. Hundreds of people in the community were affected through the loss of lives and properties, however the churches in the area, and the care they provided remained constant.
In October 2010, the New Horizons Church building received a face lift. People from the church pulled together in giving, planning and building to complete renovations so that the capacity and aesthetics of the building were improved.
In October 2012, New Horizons started a campus church 10 minutes south in Doreen. Pastors Bruce and Meralisa Langford led that campus till the end of 2016. Doreen and Whittlesea campuses have rejoined and are strengthening each other in this season preparing for what God has next.
During the covid pandemic of 2020, Rohan Buijs,as Ministries director oversaw the transition to streamed services. The year culminated in a milestone event: our online Christmas Community Carols. In February 2021, Rohan Buijs supported by his wife, Liz, and family, became Senior Pastor. He has led the church into being purposeful in our ministries and aiming for balance as we disciple believers and reach the lost. We moved to worshiping fortnightly in the Whittlesea Community and Activity Centre to allow meeting together in full numbers. In May 2021 we commence a new phase of ministry, launching our missional communities and starting a night service.
Today, New Horizons Church is a thriving, Spirit-filled, Jesus-centered church which many people call home. We pray that you will be greeted with a smile and feel connected in such a way that you too will feel at home in New Horizons Church.

Thank You, Lord
Your Holy Spirit enfolds me - making me realize I am not alone. Thank You for Your strength, Your wisdom and the comfort of Your presence. Even in the most agonizing times I have the knowledge that You are there, Lord. When all I can do is whisper Your Name, it is enough. You hear. You care. You understand. My praise and adoration, Lord Jesus. Amen.
