Who we are
We are certainly in uncharted waters as we navigate through this horrible pandemic. Because of the far-reaching tentacles of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all services at Omena Presbyterian Church this summer for the first time in our 162-year history. We care deeply for the health and safety of all who join us in worship and cannot risk the health of anyone who would participate in our services at the church.
The pastors and musicians previously scheduled understand and are supportive of our decision. While the church and manse will remain closed, work on the expansion of the parking lot will begin. When services in the church do resume, the attractive improvements will enhance the safe access to and from the church. We will continue to address the ongoing maintenance of our historic treasure. To that end, we need and encourage your financial support towards its continued upkeep and are passing the virtual collection plate. Thank you for sending your donations via check payable to

While the suspension of services at Omena Church will leave a hole in our hearts, we will seek opportunities to knit our church community together and strengthen our fellowship during this unusual summer.
Our church is small, but mighty. We have an enduring faith. The depth of our love for our church and God’s love for us will keep us whole. We will definitely overcome this challenge!

Omena Presbyterian Church History
In 1839 the Reverend Peter Dougherty founded Old Mission in the Grand Traverse area. The church, comprising Indians and whites, was organized in 1843. After 1850 the Indians were allowed to buy land, they and the church moved to Omena, or New Mission in 1852. This church resembling those of New England, was built and dedicated in 1858. Since the 1880s it is used mostly in summer. It remains relatively unchanged from the original.

Learn to know Christ
Learn to know Christ and him crucified. Learn to sing to him, and say, Lord Jesus, you are my righteousness, I am your sin. You have taken upon yourself what is mine and given me what is yours. You have become what you were not so that I might become what I was not.
