Who we are
Our Lady of Grace, Castor
The first mass in Castor was celebrated on Sunday, November 28, 1909 by Rev. Lucien Leconte p.s.m. in the harness shop of Mr. Marc de Cathelineau. 25 people were present. At this time, it was decided that a house should be erected for their missionary priest.
In May, 1910, a meeting was called for the purpose of building a church. This church was to accommodate 100 people and to be of frame construction. On August 7, 1910, Rev Hippolyte Leduc o.m.i., Victor General of the Diocese of St. Albert, came to bless and dedicate “Our Lady of Graces”. Fr. Leconte in 1920 decided to enlarge the church. The church was wired for electricity in 1927 and the renovation was completed in1928.
When the original church became too small and in disrepair, the building was demolished and a new church was built. The new church, Our Lady of Grace, was blessed on June 24, 1973, by Archbishop Anthony Jordan, o.m.i. Priests that served Castor include Fr. Lucien Leconte, Rev. John Joseph Nolan, Rev. John Joseph O’Halloran, Rev. Vincent Hartman, Rev. Richard Theroux, Rev. Edward McCarty, Rev.Bob Part, Rev. Kragbé G. Legré, Rev. Stan Blaszkowski, Rev. Kenneth West, Rev. Gregory Bittman, Rev. Mark McGee, Rev. Paul Kavanagh, Rev. Arlan Parenteau, Rev. Donatus Ihekwoaba & Rev. Miroslaw Kostarzewski.

The times are noisy and my ears are weary with the thousand raucous sounds which continuously assault them. Give me the spirit of the boy Samuel when he said to Thee, "Speak, for Thy servant heareth." Let me hear Thee speaking in my heart. Let me get used to the sound of Thy voice, that its tones may be familiar when the sounds of earth die away and the only sound will be the music of Thy speaking. Amen.
