Who we are
Dear Friends,
I was reading an article about a judge in Ohio who orders law breakers to do outlandish tasks as part of their sentences. He ordered a couple of teens who sprayed painted a nativity scene to walk around town as Mary and Joseph. He then ordered two people who shot paint gun pellets at locals of the town to shoot them at their own car. This judge wants to make punishments that last in the memories of the offenders.
This time of year we can forget what we are supposed to be celebrating. We can get caught up in plans and parties. We can be consumed by shopping and gift lists. We can see hundreds of people this time year, and we can forget to show them love. What we ultimately celebrate this time of year is love. We celebrate that God loved us so much that He sent His only Son down to die for us, so our sins may be forgiven.
This time of the year we can celebrate the fact that Christ came to not judge us on behalf of His heavenly Father, but to forgive us. We can remember the words of Paul that he wrote to the church in Rome, that while we are still sinners, Christ died for us. Christ does not want us to remember the mistakes of our past, but to relish in the hope of our future with Him in our lives.
One thing we are doing at Parkview this holiday season to celebrate the hope that Christ gives us, is celebrating our Stewardship Sunday on December 20th. On this Sunday we ask for you bring your pledge cards, and offer up a tithe to the Lord. This tithe is about the future of Parkview. This tithe pays for many of the things we are doing, but it is really a chance for you to say you believe God is doing something great here. The amount of the tithe is not what is truly important, it is the faith you have that this money can be used to do God’s work. It should be the amount you know you can faithfully give for the year of 2016. Stewardship Sunday is a chance for us to remember how much we have been given by giving to the work God is doing in our Church family.
Your Friend,
Pastor Nate
